Babar Azam, the current Pakistan Test captain, has decided to do the same after a disappointing England tour where the team suffered a whitewash, and Babar’s personal knocks were also in tatters.After the disappointing tour to the UK, Babar Azam has now decided to do something which he hasn’t done in 7 long years. Following the news of Mohammad Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq's sacking, Babar has now decided to go back to first-class cricket.Babar Azam returns to play the President Trophy after 7 yearsThe likes of Steve Smith, Joe Root, Kane Williamson and even Virat Kohli have earlier stepped back into the domestic ring to fine-tune their red-ball game in international cricket. Following in their footsteps, Babar has now decided to sharpen his game.As per Pakistani media Dawn News, Babar is set to feature in the President's Trophy Grade-I for Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), according to the Department’s sports head Farah Batool.As per Dawn news, the development will see Babar arrive back home from the UK on September 16. His inclusion will depend on how fit he is to play at that point of time. The cricketer’s form has been in downhill for quite some time, with the England tour returning figures of 7,8,6 with the average being 24.25, courtesy of a 76-run knock in Birmingham. His return might also announce him as the captain of the team, replacing the current skipper Rohail Nazir. OGDCL is currently playing their first match of the tournament against Pakistan Television. Their next fixture will be against Kingsmen Academy on September 18, for which Salman Agha is also playing. Whether Babar will join the squad ahead of the September 18 fixture or not is to be decided later.Babar’s knee-jerk response to Rizwan, Imam sacking?The PCB is currently revamping the players and coaching staff given the woeful streak of performances of the Pakistan men’s cricket team. Mohsin Naqvi’s reign is setting an example for the future lineup that will hold no bars in terms of punishing poor performances. Mohammad Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq were dropped from the Pakistan squad after their poor performances in the 1st and 2nd Tests in England, and Babar Azam is now likely to make his return because, of course correcting his red-ball game too. Whether Babar has been pressured to play domestic cricket or not by PCB is yet to be known, however, on the same line, Salman Agha who was dropped from UK tour also rejoined Pakistan Trophy and scored a triple ton to respond to criticisms.Such knocks from Babar, if he features in the tournament, will also improve his case to stay on top of his game and as Pakistan's Test captain as well.
