The Indian women's team didn’t lift the silverware during the post-match presentation after winning.The post-match ceremony saw Sri Lanka Women receive their awards as runners-up, and staff and officials were greeted; however, no ceremony for India Women was conducted despite the Asian Cricket Council chief Mohsin Naqvi being present there.Explaining the boycott stance by the team, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia elaborated on the reason behind the decision while also explaining why the team chose to play against the Pakistan Women’s team.Devajit Saikia explains boycott stance in Women’s Asia Cup 2026 FinalSpeaking to the media and IANS, Saikia, the BCCI official, shared that the decision not to collect the winner’s trophy and cheque was in solidarity with the decision of the men’s cricket team, who avoided any warm greeting with Mohsin Naqvi due to the Pahalgam terror attack protest.“Our men’s team won the Asia Cup a year and a half ago. And our whole situation, since the April 2025 Pahalgam incident, changed after that. Our military conflict is still ongoing. One of the main leaders who is working against the interests of our country; we can’t receive the trophy from him. The Women’s team has expressed solidarity with the decision taken by the men’s team last year. It doesn’t diminish the performances of our team. We have won all our matches in a one-sided manner. Women’s cricket has been growing so well in India and there’s no bigger evidence of that than this. Our whole planning is geared towards the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup. The happiest part of this tournament is how India has left everyone else behind and surged so far ahead,” Saikia shared.Also Read- India Win Women’s Asia Cup For Record-Extending 8th TimeBCCI secretary clears the air on why India is still playing against PakistanA natural question that automatically comes to mind after the strained relationship between the two nations is why India is still continuing to play against Pakistan if they want to boycott any and every interaction with them.A simple answer was given by Devajit Saikia on this matter as he explained that as per government policy, the team should play every country in multi-team tournaments despite any fractions.“There was pressure on us from our citizens that we shouldn’t keep any relations with our neighboring country and not play cricket with them. But our government has a policy that we must play against every country in multinational tournaments…” Saikia shared.What will happen to the Asia Cup trophy?In 2025, the men’s team rejected lifting the Asia Cup trophy, boycotting Naqvi. They did a trophy-less celebration and intended to receive the trophy later in India after Naqvi releases it from ACC’s office.However, things took a turn when Naqvi stated that the team captain has to come to the office in Dubai to collect the trophy. India straight out rejected the proposal, and the Trophy is still with the ACC in its office cabinet.Likely, the same fate will be shared by the India Women’s Asia Cup trophy as well.
