Mohsin Naqvi and Aaqib Javed [Source: AFP]Several days of rumours were put to rest after Pakistan Cricket Board chief selector Aaqib Javed addressed reports of him being fired from his position. In a recent upheaval, Javed was allegedly the target of the Mohsin Naqvi-led unit to be removed from the role following the humiliating 3-0 Test series whitewash against England. With seven player and coaching staff changes already made, Javed was reportedly the next case to be exiled. However, the selector has now himself addressed the rumours.Aaqib Javed confirms non-exit, shuns fake rumoursJaved, who has been in the role since 2024, addressed these rumours as fake. As per a report from Dawn News, Aaqib Javed confirmed that he is not resigning as a selector or from any other role, and that all reports of his resignation are false and misguided.Earlier, he was reported to be stripped off of his selector role to focus on the Lahore High Performance Centre job."Aaqib, who is considered the blue-eyed boy of the chairman, is also likely to be told to just focus on his role as Director Development at the Lahore High Performance Centre," a source told PTI regarding Javed’s removal.For the unaware, Javed himself was appointed as a voting member by the PCB following a major reshuffle after Pakistan's heavy defeat against England in the Multan Test two years ago. He later assumed additional responsibilities as the interim national head coach.On this line, earlier, former Pakistan selector Mohammad Wasim also made a massive revelation that Javed was set to be replaced by a big name as the new chief selector. Under Aaqib, across formats, the team has won 53 of the 101 matches they have played, amounting to a win percentage of 52.47%.However, in the two years before Aaqib's appointment, the Pakistan cricket team won 33 of the 78 matches they played, which adds up to a win percentage of 42.30%. Hence, the scale of work Javed has done for the men’s team is significant, and that is probably one of the reasons why the PCB is not yet aggressively pushing for Javed's removal.PCB's plan of action for the upcoming daysWhile Aaqib Javed confirmed his non-exit from the PCB, the board is actively looking into performance issues, especially after the England tour.
