And now comes the medal ceremony, with the gold medals around the necks of the Indian players, silver for the Pakistanis and bronze for Sri Lanka. The players from all three teams stand together in a line, medals proudly displayed, before turning towards the stands and waving to the fans. A fitting end to a memorable final, with the podium bringing together the three medal-winning sides and allowing everyone to savour the occasion. Cheers erupt as Jay Shah, the ICC Chairman, approaches the podium to present the medals to the Indian players one by one. And now, the Indian National Anthem begins to play. In the end, all three teams pose for photographs.
As the celebrations continue here, another Indian team is already in action, with Shubman Gill leading India against the West Indies in the third ODI in New Chandigarh. India have won the toss and opted to bat first this time, having chased successfully in both of the first two matches and taken an unassailable lead in the series. They will now be looking to put the finishing touch on the tour with a clean sweep. There is also a new face in the XI, with Kamboj making his ODI debut - another milestone on a day already filled with memorable moments for Indian cricket.
And in the end, India win gold, while the Men in Green have to settle for silver after a pulsating final. The Indian players take a walk around the ground, waving the Tricolour and soaking in a moment that belongs entirely to them. There were a few nervy moments towards the end, but India had been the dominant force for most of the afternoon, and the gold medal was their reward. Then came the photographs - players posing together with the Tiranga held proudly behind them, smiles all around, and the celebrations in full flow. A refreshing, cherished, and immensely proud moment for Indian cricket on the Asian Games stage.
The story of the final was ultimately about India recovering from Pakistan’s fightback every time the match threatened to slip away. Abhishek’s extraordinary Powerplay gave India the launchpad, Tilak’s late hitting lifted them to 211, and then the spinners dismantled Pakistan’s top order before the lower-middle order nearly dragged them over the line. Hasan Nawaz’s 96 was a remarkable innings, but it needed sustained support, and once Saim Ayub and Abdul Samad were gone, the equation became too steep. India had just enough in reserve to defend the total and complete a 19-run victory.
