That brings us to the end of our coverage today. This is Anirudh Modi, signing off along with my colleagues Saptak Sanyal and Raju Khariya! See you at the next one.
After just one match today, the Nepal Premier League 2026 bandwagon is set to continue tomorrow with a double header! First, it will be Kathmandu Gorkhas opening their season against Janakpur Bolts who lost their first game. After that, Karnali Yaks will look to keep their winning form intact vs Biratnagar Kings. Don't forget to join us back tomorrow as all 4 teams are set to showcase a host of T20 stars in Andre Russell, Sandeep Lamichhane, Heinrich Klaasen, just to name a few.
At the start of this match, all the talk was about chasing and how yesterday both matches saw the team batting first win. The pitch was different today and so was the result. Sudurpaschim Royals announced their intent to win from ball 1 and that set the tone for this encounter. Pokhara Avengers were reckless with the bat and a little more patience could have helped them get 15-20 runs more which were available on this pitch. Regardless, credit to Sudurpaschim Royals for turning things around from Game 1 and securing a 6 wicket victory today to open their account on the points table.
Dipendra Singh Airee (Player of the Match and Sudurpaschim Royals Captain): "(On the difference between first and today's match) I think the major difference was our batting. We didn't save wickets in the powerplay, and today we did, which helped us to chase this total down, and win the game.
(Do you think there is a need to improve the bowling and fielding areas of the side?) As we play more matches, the players will gradually understand how the pitch is behaving and what conditions they are dealing with. That will help us build better performances. Our fielding wasn't very good today, but we'll look to improve in the upcoming matches.
(On loving to contribute in all 3 departments) I always want to give 100 per cent in batting, bowling and fielding. So, whenever I play a game or a match, I always try to give my 100 per cent.
(On the fans) The fans have always supported us. Even when we lost matches previously, including finals, they continued to show us so much love and support. I hope they will continue to support us in the same way. We won't disappoint them in the upcoming matches."
Kushal Bhurtel (Pokhara Avengers Captain):"(Do you think 140 odd was enough on this wicket?) I think as a batting unit, we were up to the mark. But as a bowling unit, we did a bit of here and there.
(It looked like a better surface tonight?) As we were batting first, the ball was holding a bit with the spinners bowling. But later with the dew factor, it was not gripping for us.
(What made it difficult for your spinners?) You see the dew. I spoke with Shakib and he said dew was a factor.
(Do you think you have a strong enough squad to make it to the top four this year?) We have a very good squad compared to the last season. I believe we will comeback well in the next matches."
