That’s it from Day 2 of the Canada Super 60 in the Men’s competition! The second match of the Women’s competition is coming up shortly, so do join us for that.
Sikandar Raza (Mississauga Masters Captain): "(On Richard Gleeson) I actually told David that for me, the man of the match should be Gleeson. He bowled the two toughest overs of the game. He has given us the breakthrough. I thought he was fantastic. Boundaries are expected to flow over here but the way we held our lengths was superb.
(Did they discuss about the NRR at the halfway stage?) No. We just had a discussion about doing the things which we had a discussion about in the team meeting. Be as professional as you can be. That's it."
Dwaine Pretorius (White Rock Warriors Captain): "That wasn’t a great performance from us, and hopefully, we can bounce back strongly. There are only three days left, so if we keep playing like that, hopefully, we can get ourselves back into the playoffs. We basically need three wins from here on.
[And it’s all happening pretty quickly, so if you get on the right roll, you’ll be fine from here] Yeah, I mean, that’s sometimes the tough thing with a short tournament. If you get off to a flyer, the batters are in form and the bowlers are hitting the right lengths, then all of a sudden, the competition becomes easier. When you start on the back foot, it takes a lot of character to fight your way back."
David Wiese (Player of the Match): "(On picking up his first hat-trick) Yeah, I was denied before by the nice drs. So, happy to get over the line this time around.
(On bowling so many slower deliveries) Yeah, the wicket was on the slower side. So, I recognized that it was stopping a bit. So, I tried to bowl more slower deliveries."
Player of the Match: David Wiese
9:06 AM IST & 8:36 PM Local Time: The Mississauga Masters made light work of the run chase! They chased down the target in just 4.2 overs and registered back-to-back victories in the tournament.
Mississauga Masters won the toss and opted to chase. It was far from an impressive batting display from the White Rock Warriors, who never really got out of first gear. Ricardo Vasconcelos chipped in with 13 off 11 balls, while Prabhpreet Bhullar (23 off 10), Dwaine Pretorius (22 off 11) and Dominic Drakes (20 off 7) provided some late impetus to take the Warriors close to the 100-run mark. They eventually finished on 99/8 from 10 overs. For the Masters, David Wiese and Richard Gleeson picked up three wickets apiece, with Wiese also completing a sensational hat-trick.
In reply, the Masters suffered an early blow as Colin Munro was cleaned up by Baltej Singh with the first legal delivery of the innings. What followed was absolute carnage from the two left-handers, George Munsey and Alex Lees. They tore into the bowling attack, finding the boundary at will and leaving the fielders as mere spectators.
Alex Lees brought up his half-century off just 13 balls, matching the fastest fifty in the tournament’s history. He remained unbeaten on a stunning 59 off 16 balls, while George Munsey finished unbeaten on 30 off 11 balls. The Masters raced to 100/1 in just 4.2 overs, completing a remarkable run chase.
