However, the ground staff need to be applauded for their hard work. The pitch is very hard and looks excellent for batting. I thought there would be moisture in the wicket with the wet conditions around, but there isn't a lot of it. The batters who are willing to spend some time in the middle shall cherish the conditions eventually."

The league stage has given us our top two, and now it’s time for the first big knockout clash of the UP T20 League. The Meerut Mavericks and Lucknow Falcons finished first and second respectively, earning their place in Qualifier 1, with a direct ticket to the final waiting for the winner. For the loser, the road to the title isn’t over just yet, but it will get considerably tougher.
Meerut arrive at this stage with an outstanding league record, winning seven of their ten games and finishing comfortably at the top with 15 points. But the Mavericks have hit a small roadblock at the worst possible time, losing their last two games in succession. Their most recent defeat came against Kashi Rudras, and they will be keen to put that blip behind them when it matters most.
Lucknow come into this one with confidence after getting the better of Kanpur Superstars in their previous outing, a 13-run victory in a rain-affected contest. Their record against Meerut this season has been more evenly balanced - the sides have met twice in the league stage, with Meerut winning the first encounter via the DLS method, while the second was abandoned. Now, with a place in the final on the line, the Falcons will be looking to turn that recent momentum into another big result against the table-toppers.
The Mavericks have the season’s consistency, the Falcons have recent momentum, and only one of them can walk away with a direct passage to the final today. The stage is set for a big one.
