History has repeated itself, and this time history has been defeated by the Men in Blue! The glory of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 has been repeated again in 2026, and the so-called “Ahmedabad curse” in a World Cup final has finally been buried. In front of a jam-packed crowd of more than 86,000 at the colossal Narendra Modi Stadium, India shattered records for fun in a grand finale that will be remembered for generations.

From warming the bench at the start of the tournament to becoming India’s most dependable batter in the must-win games, Sanju Samson completed a fairy-tale journey and deservedly finished as the Player of the Tournament. And then there was the magician himself — Jasprit Bumrah — the GOAT, the champion, delivering another stellar tournament. Truly a once-in-a-generation bowler whose brilliance lit up the entire campaign.

Credit goes to the entire squad, but special mentions must go to Axar Patel, Ishan Kishan, and Shivam Dube, who performed consistently and played crucial roles throughout the tournament. Their contributions helped build the foundation for this historic triumph.

The phrase “Ahmedabad Curse” is now history — replaced by a legacy of dominance. The celebrations have only just begun and will continue for days as fans across the country rejoice in another monumental achievement. As the curtains fall on the historic 2026 edition of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, the tournament leaves behind unforgettable memories and once again confirms India’s status as a global cricketing powerhouse. Back-to-back T20 World Cup champions — the Men in Blue reign supreme!

It’s time to sign off from this unforgettable journey. Thank you for being part of this incredible ride — because in the end, cricket is the ultimate winner. It has been an honor bringing the pulse of this tournament to life alongside such a stellar team. For now, this is Pritam Dey signing off on behalf of my colleagues Akshay Bhide, Ajay Pal Singh, AkshayaKrishna Polya, Manish Bishnoi, Aman, and the entire CREX family, thank you for riding this emotional rollercoaster with us. The world now eagerly awaits the next chapter of the beautiful game. Until then, stay tuned for more cricketing action from around the globe! BYE BYE👋
Suryakumar Yadav shares a hug with Jay Shah before receiving the T20 World Cup trophy and lifting it alongside his teammates. Fireworks light up the sky one final time as the tournament comes to a spectacular close.
Suryakumar Yadav (India Captain): "(Has it sunk in yet?) I think it will take a little bit of time. Definitely very happy with what happened today. It was a long journey. It started post the 2024 world cup. At that time, BCCI President Jay bhai, BCCI Secretary and Rohit bhai showed their faith in me, gave me an opportunity to lead this wonderful side and then it was a long, long cycle for us coming here in the Shree Narendra Modi Stadium and doing it. I think it's a special feeling.

(On dealing with the favourites tag) I think we knew that we were playing some good cricket throughout the two years and it was going really well. We just wanted to follow all the good habits which we did in the 2024 T20 World Cup. We told the boys the same thing what it feels to win a world cup. How do we want to play in the Bilateral series, the taste which we want to take forward and go on to win the T20 World Cup. I think that was actually conveyed to everyone in the team and boys took it really well.

(On keeping faith in players like Abhishek, Varun & Samson) I think it's really important to understand what they are capable of. I knew they had the matchwinners in them. The timing was perfect for Sanju to come in. Varun Chakaravarthy and Abhishek Sharma - World Number 1 players. We always knew that they had something special, no bigger stage than a final. Also especially how Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel - they have been in the circuit for a really long time, taking care of each other along with the help of the support staff. I think it was really very special.

(On having a magician bowler like Bumrah in the side) Well, I have said about him many times. Like what Sanju said in the last game that he wanted to give his Man of the Match award to Bumrah. He is a once in a generation bowler. I can call him as a National Treasure right now but he knows what needs to be done. How it needs to be done. The best in the business and hopefully he keeps doing that.

THANK YOU AHMEDABAD."
Time for the Indian players to receive their winners' medals from ICC chair Jay Shah.
Mitchell Santner (New Zealand Captain): "[Thoughts on the game] Firstly, proud of the boys to make it this far. Obviously, we had some challenges throughout but we put a great fight. We were outplayed by a very good team in front of a great crowd. Proud of the boys.

[On playing in Ahmedabad] It's always a great crowd. To see a sea of blue, India were favorites. Credit to India for winning the title at home.

[What did they do right in this tournament?] Different guys stepped up at different stages. In Super 8s and in the semi-final, we put up a good show. Today, we were outplayed but the boys should be proud."
The New Zealand players receive their medals from New Zealand Cricket Director, Roger Twose.
The match officials are now receiving their medals.
