That marks the end of our coverage from the Dambulla-leg of the Lanka Premier League 2026. In the final game at this venue, Galle Gallants outplayed the Dambulla Sixers and won the game by 44 runs.

Dasun Shanaka (Galle Gallants Captain): "(Are you going to try your bench strength going forward?) First of all I wanted to play a complete game. From the start, we did it. From Sahan to Nurul to Charith to Chamika, they showed their maturity and very happy for them. Apart from the first over, everybody did their job perfectly. We can make any plans but players need to execute those. Really happy and hopefully we will continue with the momentum. I need to try the bench strength as well but at the same time, we need to keep winning.
(Any particular area you were focusing on before the start of the tournament?) We had the draft and we had experienced guys in my camps. It all worked really well but there should be some luck and you need that luck factor to win trophies."

Chamika Karunaratne (Player of the Match): "(Tell us what was going through your mind?) It is very easy. I just played positive and always looked at the scoreboard. Today when I was batting with Sahan, we planned to play till the 15th over because we would have had two power blast overs after that. We could have taken 25 from those and we could have reached 200. Unfortunately Sahan got out but we got 15-20 runs extra.
(Were you happy with 220?) When Dasun got out, I told Nawaz and others to take it till last two overs. 200 would have been good but I am happy that we got 220.
(How did you adjust at the lower order?) I want to tell something. I was having a really hard time. I backed myself and said you have to prove it to yourself. I worked really hard at the club and trained every single day."
(Were you happy with 220?) When Dasun got out, I told Nawaz and others to take it till last two overs. 200 would have been good but I am happy that we got 220.

Dinesh Chandimal (Dambulla Sixers Captain): "(On the game) We were outplayed in the game. We have to regroup and comeback strongly. We will have to find out how to bowl in the powerplay and the last few overs. That is an area where we have to do well.
(Where do you think you could have done better?) I think we have done well but as bowlers, the execution was not right. These things happen and we have to bounce back.
(Why do you think that happens?) I don't know, it is up to the individuals. As international players, you have to find out what went wrong and what you have to do. That is why they are playing at this level. I am sure that they will learn from the mistakes."

11:08 PM IST and Local Time: Galle Gallants have outplayed the Dambulla Sixers in every facet of the game and they are the deserving winners of this game. Gallants have won it by 45 runs and continue to stay at the helm of the points table but the boost in NRR has strengthened their position.
Sam Harper got a new opening partner in Nurul Hasan Sohan today and the experiment clicked straightaway. Nurul took on the Sixers' pacers and hit 6 boundaries on his way to score 29 off just 13 balls. Dushmantha Chameera got the better of him in the fifth over but Charith Asalanka took 16 from the next 3 balls to score 28 off the former's first over. Sam Harper chipped in with some boundaries and Gallants got 71/1 in the powerplay, the highest powerplay score of the season.
Harper and Asalanka added 59 for the second wicket before Dushmantha Chameera removed the latter (31). In the last ball of the 10th over, he also removed Sam Harper (41) and brought his team back in the game. Sahan Arachchige and Chamika Karunaratne then saw off a couple of overs to go berserk at the bowlers. They scored 56 runs for the 4th wicket in 32 balls and Chameera again got a couple of wickets in the 16th over. He got the better of Sahan (28) and Dasun Shanaka outside edged to Dickwella next ball. Sixers conceded only 11 in the power blast overs taking two wickets and in the 18th over, Wasim Jnr deceived Mohammad Nawaz to rattle his off stump.
Chamika Karunaratne took all the responsibility on his shoulder and he smacked 27 off the final over bowled by Wasim. He hit 4 boundaries and 6 towering sixes to score an unbeaten 72. Tharindu Ratnayake was struggling to lay any bat on the ball but Chamika did not let the Gallants feel it. He added 45 with Tharindu for the 7th wicket and himself scored 37 from 11 balls in the partnership and his partner got just 2 runs.
Dushmantha Chameera picked up a fifer but conceded 55 in his 4 overs. Mohammad Wasim took the other wicket. Vishwa Lahiru started with the new ball and did well in his 2 overs to concede just 14 runs but Chandimal did not allow him to finish his quota of 4 overs.
Niroshan Dickwella and Sahibzada Farhan came out in pursuit of the gargantuan total and got off to a breezy start. For the first 15 balls, they had everything going in their favour. Dickwella hit 7 boundaries inside the first three overs and Sahibzada Farhan smacked his fellow Pakistani Akif Javed for the first maximum of the run chase. They got 45 in three overs but in the next over, Farhan's laziness became fatal as he got run out. Just four balls later, Dickwella's (32) sweep found the square leg fielder off Mohammad Nawaz. Eshan Malinga dismissed Pavan Rathnayake in the next over and Dambulla Sixers were 52/3 in the first 6 overs. They could score just 7 runs from the last 3 overs of powerplay and lost 3 wickets! That's where the game turned on it's head.
Dinesh Chandimal and Reeza Hendricks were in the middle but the Galle spinners controlled the entire middle over phase. After the boundary in the 15th ball of the innings, Sixers played 33 boundaryless balls and it proved to be hefty specially when they had a tall mountain to climb. Sachindu Colombage was playing his first LPL game after five years and he kept things tight from one end. His drifter rattled Reeza Hendricks' (9 off 15) leg stump, Dinesh Chandimal (15) found Akif Javed mistiming a sweep and Gulbadin Naib's hoick went straight to Tharindu Ratnayake at long-off. Colombage finished with 3/17 and it was a game changing spell.
From 98/6, Marques Ackerman and Ramesh Mendis fought back but they just reduced the deficit. Ackerman tried to ramp Akif Javed but found Short third man fielder scoring 23. Ramesh Mendis hit 6 fours and a maximum to score 39 off 22 and Theekshana hit three boundaries in the last over to score 16* off 12 balls and Sixers got 176/7 in their 20 overs.
