That is the end of our coverage from the first Sunday double-header of ETPL 2026. Thankfully, the rain god stayed away, and the second game went uninterrupted. Edinburgh Castle Rockers have got a thumping victory over the Dublin Guardians by 4 wickets and with 38 balls to spare. This victory has taken the Mitchell Santner-led side to the helm of the points table, while the scenario is contradictory for the Dublin Guardians. They are yet to get any point in their tally and are languishing at the bottom of the table.
Mitchell Santner (POTM & Edinburgh Castle Rockers Captain): "(You must be thrilled with the way the team is playing) Ya! Obviously. Rain intervened on the other day. But the way we backed up the first game is pretty good, pretty impressive.
(How difficult is it to keep everyone in the squad motivated?) Ya I think it is hard one. You want to keep giving opportunities, but a few guys miss out. You know we got a great group. For the balance, we have got a few spinners.
(On his demotion in the batting order. Was it to give others the opportunities) A little bit. But if you look at our line-up, there's a lot of power in both batting and bowling. They are playing good cricket. Pacers take wickets in the powerplay, and the spinners squeeze after that. It has been good so far.
(On the light moment between him and Trent Boult) Yes, he got the fifer the other day. He took those wickets the other day. And he did say that it was my opportunity to take a fifer, and then he hung onto it (the catch). He got wickets this game; as a bowling unit, we are going well. He got a crucial wicket today; he went for runs, but it is fine.
(It is quite impressive to see you and Anrich Nortje getting respective maiden fifers in the same tournament) Ya! He has pace. As a spinner, you can not just roll through in the middle. Nortje bowled really well, and it was quite good to watch."

Ravichandran Ashwin (Dublin Guardians Captain): "(How would you keep the morale high after this game?) It is all about finding answers and at the moment, we are not finding any. It was a positive as we started better in the powerplay. I thought we got a good start, but could not capitalize. But nevertheless, you have to look at the rub of the green on the other side. We bowled well. They got off to a good start, but we got the wickets to hang on till the end. That might give us some confidence.
(On the positives in the bowling line-up) I thought we have given away 10-15 runs extra in the other games, but that does not mean that we have not done well with the ball. We had pockets where we conceded runs in overs, but that happens when there's inexperience in the group. We are trying to do better, trying to keep the morale high. The group is enjoying it. Just we are not playing great cricket at this point of time. There are few boys in the bench, we do believe in them.
(How long would you give players before you call those players in bench?) I think they have done pretty well. We lost three out of three, but still played the same XI. 9:49 PM IST and 6:19 PM Local Time: Dublin Guardians' miserable tournament continues. After losing first two games, they have made it a hat-trick of defeats today. Edinburgh Castle Rockers have completely dominated the game since the start and have won it by 6 wickets and with 38 balls to spare.
Ravichandran Ashwin, the skipper of Dublin Guardians won the toss and decided to bat first. Guardians got off to a good start as James Vince got a few early boundaries, but he lost his partners from the other end. Muhammad Waseem (6), Harry Tector (4) and Daryl Mitchell (3) perished cheaply and Vince was running out of his partners. He scored a fine 40 off 30 balls, before getting perished in the 9th over. Guardians got a boundary in the fifth over and took 63 balls to find another, which is too much in a T20 game.
Mitchell Santner, the Castle Rockers' skipper introduced himself in the 7th over and took at least a wicket in each of his four overs. He dismissed Mitchell, Vince, Ben Calitz(3) and George Dockrell (2) among the top and middle order batters. Calitz took a terrible review to burn the final DRS out and Dockrell became the victim of a poor judgement of the umpire. Santner came back for his final over and accounted for Matt Hollard (9) to finish with 5/16 in his 4 overs.
Sanjay Krishnamurthi gave some fight back in the fag end of the Guardians innings and his run-a-ball 24 helped his team to go past the 100-run mark and post 109 on the board before getting bundled out. Trent Boult finished with 2/20 in his 3 overs. Tom Curran, Mark Watt, Jack Jarvis and JJ Smuts got their names into the wickets column.
