The Nepal Premier League action continues tomorrow, Tuesday, November 3, with another exciting double-header in Kirtipur. Biratnagar Kings face Janakpur Bolts in the afternoon fixture, before Lumbini Lions take on Pokhara Avengers in the evening. Two more battles await, with fresh opportunities and new stories ready to unfold. Do join us for another day of NPL cricket!
And so, the Royals have marched on with a composed chase after a fiery start, while Chitwan are left to reflect on a batting effort that never quite took flight. Bopara fought a lonely battle, McMullen made the Powerplay sparkle, and Ranjit briefly brought the contest alive with a spirited three-wicket burst. But in the end, the Royals had enough cushion to absorb the pressure and finish the job. One side found its rhythm early, the other found hope in the middle, but the points belonged to Sudurpaschim, who registered their second win of the season.
Dipendra Singh Airee, the winning captain of the Sudurpaschim Royals was not interviewed.
Sikandar Raza (Chitwan Rhinos captain):"[On playing international cricket yesterday and then playing league cricket today] Yeah it is tough. It is taxing on the body but once you've given your words and once you've given your commitments, you also got to respect that a tournament is taking place. The owners have put in a lot of effort and there's management and all that. Once you've given your dates, then I reckon every professional athlete needs to honor it, and all I'm doing is honoring the dates that I've given. It was important for me to be here. On the game, I thought maybe had we bowled well, starting from myself, I think the ill-discipline bowling from my part certainly killed the game. We were always in a hunt, and the quality of spin that I've seen today and the team has possessed, I reckon we've got a great chance of going far in the tournament as well. We just have to be a little bit more disciplined, starting from me, and take our catches and we'll be okay.
[On the catches being dropped] I think the ball got slightly wet. But also, I think when the ball goes up, there's a bit of pressure, there's a bit of noise as well. The guys are not used to it maybe, but you know, it will go down really well the more they play under the lights, the more they play in front of a big crowd as well, and how to handle the pressure. Because at the end of the day when they take the next step and get into international cricket, it is all about handling pressure. Because I feel like all the boys are very skillful anyway. It is how they control their emotions and how they stay in the present.
[On Ranjit Kumar's spell] Certainly. Ranjit was outstanding today. Listen, there were a couple of boundaries here and there, but I thought just the general grouping and how he managed to turn the ball, and how vary his pace, and how he bowled his arm ball as well. It's a really interesting talent, and hopefully, he'll spend a lot of time with him. Because it's one thing to have all those variations, it's very important to know when to bowl it. We hear the senior boys are here for a few weeks as well. We'll sit him down and try and groom him and help him as much as we can so that when I personally leave Nepal, there's something good I've given to the game plus and second to my changing room. Hopefully, if there's any other cricketer who wants to have a word and things like that. But yeah, Ranjit certainly is an exceptional talent.
[Could Mousom Dhakal have been brought into the attack earlier?] There was a thought, but I thought Ranjit bowled a really good spell as well. Once somebody's on a roll, then you don't want to look too far because we didn't have a lot of runs and we didn't have a really great powerplay. It was one of those things where Ranjit can open one end and hopefully, I try and do my part, which I didn't. Unfortunately, with the lefties in there as well, I thought I'll have a better chance there. But the reading of the game and the size of the teammates that I've got, I've got a very good chance. Anybody can come and bowl any minute and can win us the game."
Brandon McMullen (POTM):"[On his onslaught in the powerplay] I know sir, that some slogging at balls helps in the power play, but I just thought with the conditions state getting worse, that both innings are more likely to use wickets. So I just decided to be aggressive and take down the power play as much as I can.
[On the tricky last game] Yeah, for sure. I think it's given us massive momentum and confidence going into the rest of the tournament. I think the boys were buzzing for today, and thankfully we got the win on the board.
[Did the team have a point to prove?] Definitely. I think that was an important game for us, as are all of the games as well, but tonight was getting together as a group and making sure we can make it count and put a punch towards that table.
[On different players contributing for the side] Yeah, definitely. I think Anil was awesome again with the ball and he's shown his skills through all the games. Abinash was amazing as well in bowling some tough overs there, so those are our standouts in our team tonight.
[Was there any pressure on the side coming into this game?] No, no pressure. I think this group is quite close, close-knit, and we banter a lot as a group and have a lot of fun. So, I guess that's the benefits of being successful in this tournament, just going into that field and doing our mantra of just enjoy."
