With that, our coverage from the Saturday double-header of the Lanka Premier League comes to an end. In the first game, Kandy Royals defeated the high flying Galle Gallants and in the second game, it was a Kamindu Mendis show. The Colombo Kaps' skipper stood firmly and played a whirlwind knock to bag the player of the match award and his 88-run innings proved to be the distinguishing factor between the Kaps and Dambulla Sixers.
Tomorrow there is another double-header. In the afternoon game, Kandy Royals will face Jaffna Kings. In the evening, Dambulla Sixers will come in search of redemption against Galle Gallants, who will be keen to bounce back after a loss.

Kamindu Mendis (Colombo Kaps Captain and POTM): "(On his knock) Yeah, I felt really settled once I got myself in. I stayed calm and just played according to the field. As you said, once I'm in the zone, I can be very difficult to stop. Thankfully, it worked out today. We also got valuable contributions from the other batters, so we felt we had posted a winning total.
(Will you rank this as one of your best T20 knocks?) Yes, absolutely.
(On the impact of powerplay) To be honest, I think it's equally important for both the bowlers and the batters. Bowlers can make an impact by taking wickets—we always use Mujeeb in the powerplay because he's capable of getting early breakthroughs. At the same time, batters can make the most of the fielding restrictions and score quickly. So I think it's 50-50. It's a challenging phase for everyone, but I feel it's good for the game."
(Will you rank this as one of your best T20 knocks?) Yes, absolutely.

(The power blast is a phase where your team struggles. Any particular reason?) I mean these things happen in cricket. We are playing this format and playing nonstop. It is tough for the players but at the same time, you have to adjust as international players. I am sure the boys will come good in coming games.
(On a personal note, how are you feeling?) Much better still there are some bruises outside. I have to take some painkillers and play the games."

Earlier, the Kaps posted 197/5, riding on an unbeaten 88 off 39 balls from skipper Kamindu Mendis, with Rubin Hermann contributing with a well-made 39. Chasing a daunting target, Dambulla endured a disastrous start as skipper Dinesh Chandimal fell for 2 before Niroshan Dickwella was run out for 8, leaving the side reeling at 12/2 inside three overs.
Pavan Rathnayake (50) and Marques Ackerman (40 off 33) attempted to steady the innings, but regular wickets ensured the required rate kept climbing. Pavan Rathnayake produced a fighting half-century, smashing 50 off just 30 deliveries with six fours and a six, while Gulbadin Naib injected late momentum with a brisk 28 off 13 balls, striking three sixes.
Their counterattack briefly revived Dambulla's hopes as the pair added valuable runs in the middle overs.
