Heat bowler Xavier Bartlett after a career-best 4 for 30: "We made it hard for ourselves in the end again, but what a cracking game of cricket. I'm really enjoying my cricket back now and it's good to contribute to a win. [Peirson as captain] has been awesome for us. [Power Surge bowling] has been an interesting one. We look now to try to take wickets and not defend. The best way to defend is to attack."
A lot of twists and turns but Brisbane Heat prevail in the end. A much-needed 14-run victory over a strong Hobart Hurricanes side. Defending an average total of 151, Xavier Bartlett got Heat off to the best possible start as he sent back Matthew Wade and Ben McDermott in just the second over. Thereafter, the duo of D'Arcy Short and Harry Brook stitched a partnership but it came at a very slow rate.
Brook's 22-run knock was eventually brought to an end by Mujeeb as he rapped the English youngster plumb in front. Mujeeb also got the better of Peter Handscomb who slog-swept a leg-break straight into the buckets of Max Bryant. The dangerous Tim David didn't come off today as he top-edged a short of a length delivery to Jimmy Peirson to become Bartlett's third victim.
A couple of deliveries later, Short's painful 27 off 38 came to an end as he slapped a length delivery from Bartlett to Mark Steketee at mid-on. Afghan spinner Mujeeb came back to castle Jordan Thompson and get his third wicket of the day. Just like the Brisbane Heat recovery, the lower-order duo of Thomas Roges and Nathan Ellis also attempted to pull off a miracle.
Just when Rogers and Ellis were threatening to take the game away, Mark Steketee broke the 27-run partnership in the very first ball of the penultimate over. Rogers though still kept Hurricanes in the hunt with the team going into the final over needing 22. Rogers started with a boundary but Jack Wildermuth held his nerve and just conceded three more runs to seal a 14-run victory
