It was a day of absolute dominance for the hosts in Mirpur as Bangladesh dismantled Pakistan to take a 1-0 lead in the series. The narrative of the match was written early by Nahid Rana, whose blistering spell of 5/24 tore through the Pakistani top and middle order, leaving the visitors reeling at 114 all out. The chase was a mere formality, but Tanzid Hasan ensured it was done with an exclamation point. His aggressive 67 off 42 balls saw Bangladesh gallop to the target in just 15.1 overs. With a staggering 209 balls to spare, this 8-wicket victory sends a massive statement to the visitors. Pakistan will need to head back to the drawing board quickly to find a way to handle this rejuvenated Tigers' bowling attack before the second ODI.
Until then, I am Dev Rajawat, signing off, along with my co-commentator Ajay Pal Singh and scorer Manish Bishnoi. That’s it from our side. Thanks for joining. But cricket doesn’t sleep. Plenty is happening around the world. Switch tabs, follow the fun. Goodbye from this tab! TAKE CARE! BREATHE AND SMILE! CIAO!!!!
Mehidy Hasan Miraz (Bangladesh Captain): "[On what this win means] Yes, it was an excellent start. We played an ODI after a long time. Everybody handled the situation, and I am also confident about this series.
[On the importance of toss and bowling performance] Yeah, it was an excellent bowling performance. In the first 10 overs, we didn't pick any wickets but Rana, the way he bowled, he took wickets. Taskin and Fizz bowled really well in the first few overs. Rana kept hitting the right areas, and that's what we told him. He read the conditions and wicket and adjusted his length accordingly.
[On World Cup qualification] Yes, every match is very important. We want to qualify for the World Cup. I am confident at this moment, two more matches remaining and the next match is very very important."
Player of the Match: Nahid Rana
Shaheen Shah Afridi (Pakistan Captain): (On the team’s performance in the match) “I think we started well, but then, Nahid came in and rattled us. I think we bowled really well. The start we wanted, we did not achieve in the first game. This is a young team, and I will back this team till the end.
(On the batting after the opening partnership) When you lose a match, there are a lot of points you can mention. In one-day cricket, you need partnerships, both in batting and bowling.
(On looking ahead to the next games) There are still two games left, and we will focus on the next one.”

5:37 PM IST, 6:07 PM Local Time: Talk about making a statement — that is exactly what Bangladesh have done. Pakistan have been blown away by a clinical Bangladesh side as the hosts go 1–0 up in this three-match ODI series with a thumping eight-wicket win. They get the job done with over 200 balls to spare.
Earlier in the game, Sahibzada Farhan and Maaz Sadaqat started well for Pakistan after being asked to bat first by Mehidy Hasan Miraz. The opening duo added 41 runs in the first 10 overs. But as they lost Farhan, it all went downhill for the visitors.
Seven batters failed to get into double figures and the top order was blown away by Nahid Rana who bowled rapidly. Farhan (27), Maaz (17), Mohammad Rizwan (10) and Faheem Ashraf (37) were the only notable contributors with the bat for Pakistan.
Nahid Rana picked up his maiden five-wicket haul, while Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz got three. Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman both chipped in with a wicket each as Pakistan were bundled out for 114.
In reply, Tanzid Hasan Tamim and Saif Hossain started rapidly. They added 27 runs inside first three overs before Shaheen Shah Afridi removed the latter.
Najmul Hossain Shanto joined hands with Tanzid and they added 82 runs together, putting the game to bat with a flawless 2nd wicket partnership.
Shanto fell for 27 off Mohammad Wasim Jnr's bowling, but Tanzid kept going and remained not out on 67 off 42 to take Bangladesh over the line with 209 balls to spare.
