Ovaise: Rain has the last laugh today!! Earlier in the day, the toss was delayed due to rain Pakistan won the toss and opted to bat first on a green-looking surface!! Australia-W started brilliantly with the ball, the Pakistan opener Iram Javed was dismissed early on 9 in just the fifth over of the game. After Javed’s dismissal, Jess trapped Sohail in her spin and showed her the way to the pavilion. Pakistan was in a lot of trouble at this point. Muneeba and Maroof steadied the ship, the going was extremely slow!!
Nicola Carey was terrific with the ball in hand today, she dismissed the well-set Munaaba Ali on 19 (23) in the 9th over of the game!! Maroof was looking solid but she didn't get enough support from the other end. Pakistan lost wickets at regular intervals, there wasn't any significant partnership in the middle. Bismah Maroof the skipper was the highest run scorer with 32 (39) who helped her team crawl to 94!!
Jess Jonassen was the pick of the bowlers for Australia, she scalped 4 wickets in total and took 3 wickets in the final over of the first innings!! Nicola Carey finished with figures of 2-16 in her 4 and Ashleigh Gardner picked up 1-21 her 4!
Chasing 95 was always going to be easy for Australia, Alyssa Healy and Beth Mooney walked out into the middle and started milling runs straight away, the match was on course of finishing quickly but rain interrupted play in the 5th over with Australia well placed at 28-0 in 4.2!! Four more balls and we could have has a result in this game, but the umpire decided that the rain was too heavy and took the players out!!
The frustrating wait started and it took about an hour before the umpire decided that it wasn't going to get better!! The match was abandoned!! Pakistan will take this result but Australia will be disappointed not to have gotten over the line in this encounter!!
