Disappointing campaign for Australia comes to an end with a thumping win. Oman will take plenty of learnings before charting their path ahead in international cricket. It's an early exit for Australia after the 2009 and 2014 editions.

That will be it from our coverage of the Group B dead rubber between Australia and Oman. The Aussies finish third on the Group B table with 2 wins against Ireland and Oman respectively whereas Oman fail to get going on the table. Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe the two sides making it to Super 8.

Ninaad Dixit here signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Pritam Dey, scorer/analyst Paras Yadav, statistician Aman and special mention to Ajay Pal Singh for ensuring the smooth coverage of the game. Stay tuned for more action around the world, good night for now!
Mitchell Marsh (Australia Captain): "It's a missed opportunity. It's a disappointed change room. Unfortunately we didn't play our best in the couple of games when we were needed to. You lose that game to Zimbabwe and you're under pressure. We them all the best but we are bitterly disappointed as a group.

[on conditions behind the results] I don't think the wickets that we played on spun. Colombo was slow but we prepared for that and we had the guys to do the job. In the tournament if you leave it off, you can lose a game that had to put you on the backfoot. We just weren't able to get the job done when it mattered.

[on going forward] The leaders that we've got in Cricket Australia will look at it and we'll look at it as players and as a team on ways to keep ensuring that we get better as a team and if we're lucky enough to have the opportunity as a group again that we're better. When you fail there's always great learnings. We couldn't be more disappointed in the way that it's panned out but we go home and we reflect where we move on."
Jatinder Singh (Oman Captain): "Well, I think it's a proud moment for all of us that we got a chance to play in the World Cup. The result and the journey didn't go our way. I think our preparations were not upto the mark. We wanted to play competitive cricket during our preparations but we ended up playing domestic cricket which is not upto the mark. So, that's were we lacked a bit. Boys gave it all. Result is not something which is not in your control.

(On making sure they play the 2026 World Cup) 100%. Everybody now knows what it takes to represent at this stage. We have taken a lot of learnings from this tournament. We are looking forward to it. Boys have taken a lot of positives from this and also from the opposition as well.

(A message to the fans) As I said, we are all grateful that we represented our country in the World Cup. I am so glad that we got tremendous support from the fans across the globe. Thank you so much for the support and I am sure with your support, we will bounce back stronger."
Adam Zampa (Player of the Match): "(How was the tournament as a whole?) To be honest, it has been a rough few days for us. The voice in our changeroom has been pretty quiet as we are very disappointed that our world cup is ending so soon. We are feeling pretty flat at the moment. We have played a specific brand of cricket which didn't work out for us.

(Were the batters playing safe against you?) I think that I could've done more in that Sri Lanka game. My contribution to that game was not good at all. I think that I could've done better in that game.

(On his role) My job is to get wickets through the middle. I was able to do that in a couple of games. We have built this squad in the last few years but we failed to do our jobs right especially in big games.

(Happy with picking up wickets tonight?) You would always like to have wickets rather than not having. I am not thinking about that much. I am disappointed that our tournament has ended today. I am not ready to fly home tomorrow."

9:25 PM IST, Local Time: Consolation victory for Australia as they thrash Oman by 9 wickets and 62 balls to spare in a one-sided win in their final encounter of their ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. Oman will be happy with some performances at the big stage but they fail to get a single point on the table.

Losing the toss, Oman posed no threat to the Aussies. Xavier Bartlett picked up a wicket off the first ball of the match and bowled 4 overs on the trot finishing with 2/27. Adam Zampa was the pick of the bowlers finishing with 4/21, Glenn Maxwell also picked up a couple of wickets with only Cameron Green remaining wicketless in his 2 overs.

Wasim Ali in the middle order held one end for Oman and top scored with 32 in 33 balls helping the side to register 104 before being bowled out in 16.2 overs.

Australia started the chase with fireworks, Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head smashing the ball to all parts and beyond. The Aussie skipper brought up a 26-ball half century and remained unbeaten on 64 in 33 deliveries hitting 7 fours and 4 sixes.

Travis Head dealt in boundaries as well smashing 6 fours in his 19-ball 32 before he was caught by Shakeel Ahmed off his own bowling. The left arm spinner was the pick of the bowlers with 1/29 in 4 overs. Josh Inglis hammered 12 in 6 balls to finish things off in the 10th over.

Marsh and Head added 93 runs for the first wicket in just 49 legal deliveries setting the thumping win to bow out of the T20 World Cup. Stay tuned for the post match presentation.
