This has been a forgettable day and a season for the Dublin Guardians altogether. They have one more game remaining, and while very, very little has gone in favour for them in this campaign, they will look to finish with a win. The Amsterdam Flames, now second in the points table, strengthen their case for a spot in the semi-final with their fifth win in nine games.
Scott Edwards (Amsterdam Flames Captain): "(Are they peaking at the right time?) Yeah absolutely. We have sort of figured out our style of play. I thought we have been pretty consistent in these last few guys. The way the guys have been batting and bowling have been awesome.
(What is the style of play for the Amsterdam Flames?) Well, probably I won't give you too much of an information but we try to use our spinners as an attacking option. We have got a pretty powerful batting line-up.
(On the surface) I think we have seen the wicket in Dublin which has been on the slower side and a bit spongy. I don't know if it's the rain around or not. The wicket is slightly on the slower side but still you need to make those runs.
(Preparations for the final league game) Yeah, it's a big game for us. If we win that game, we are pretty much through to the playoffs. It's just building towards the backend of the tournament. Not a lot changes for us.
(Is the management happy?) Yeah, they are really happy. They have a big smile on their face. Really happy with the way our group is performing."
Curtis Campher (Player of the Match):"(What made it click today?) Sticking to my processes, and the shots came off and kind of got going. Lovely partnership with Bassy (de Leede) there.
(Importance of batting with de Leede) The group's been really good, rubbing off on each other, and learning. Bas is a really good all-rounder for us, nice to see how he goes about his business, I go around my business slightly differently, it's nice to compliment and feed off each other.
(Was he targeting certain bowlers) Not really, the conditions were slightly different on either side and it's about assessing them and figuring your positive options and how you can get runs, Bassy does it slightly different to me. He scores in different areas to me.
(On what Scott Edwards said to him after giving the ball) He's been really good about going to my strengths and processes, quite tough with that short side, so it's about being unpredictable and making sure you use your skills really well. Today kind of went my way, one or two lucky balls, if you stay consistent to your processes and back your skills, you give yourself the best chance.
(On whether he expected more pace off the pitch) If you bend your back and hit the pitch with the seam you can get a bit out of it. Taking pace off is a way as well. It was about mixing it up quite a bit and not being too predictable."
Curtis Campher has been adjudged Player of the Match!
Time for the post-match presentation ceremony.
Ravichandran Ashwin (Dublin Guardians Captain): "(Reflection on this defeat) Look, there has been a constant upwards curve before this game. We were poor today. Don't think the energy in the field was great either. We won the important toss. We didn't execute with the ball. We know we are out of this but I keep urging the boys to try and have high standards for themselves. We are at the bottom so the only way is moving upwards.
(His say to the youngsters) Well, it can be hard in a tournament like this. Some of them are very new to franchise cricket. It can be very hard as you get into the backend of the tournament knowing that you won't qualify. As I said, captaincy or leadership, whatever you call it, is a responsibility. The only way the team is going to climb is when each one of these individuals are going to do better. We want to create such an environment for them. Form can be an issue but we want the attitude to be better.
(Any message to the squad before their final game?) The fact that we do have a say is something that should excite everyone. As I said, results haven't gone our way. We haven't managed to put those results into bed. We need to understand our standards. It's going to define ourselves. We are winning tosses but not winning games (chuckles)."
6:15 PM IST, 1:45 PM Local Time: Smiles all around the Amsterdam Flames camp - they've made fairly light work of defending 214 today. The Dublin Guardians were barely in the run-chase; they struggled badly in the middle overs, and that set them back completely. David Payne, Michael Bracewell and Curtis Campher took all nine wickets between them - all of them taking three each, making their impact across various stages of the innings.
The wicket had some assistance for bowlers earlier today as the Guardians opted to bowl, and while David Willey managed to keep things tight in the powerplay from his end, Craig Young proved a touch expensive as the Amsterdam Flames looked to maximise the first six overs. Steve Smith provided the initial impetus, and Curtis Campher did well to close it out and get the Flames close to 50 in the first six. Campher and de Leede proceeded to navigate through the middle overs at a steady pace, finding and clearing the boundary almost every over.
