There was a time when the Mumbai Indians ruled the IPL, as the team captured five IPL championships in eight years, and were arguably the best T20 team in the world. However, in the last five years, things have changed as the side has failed to win a single IPL title, and this season, they’ll be eager to change their fortunes.

In the last couple of seasons, things have changed for Mumbai as several players have underperformed, while some have aged. This has hampered the team's performance, and the franchise has suffered quite a bit.

As a result, at the end of the season, we might witness a couple of players taking retirement from the IPL (due to form, and age factor). Here is a list of such Mumbai Indians players who can make sudden retirement call.

1) Rohit Sharma

At 38, Rohit Sharma is not getting any younger, and over the last few seasons, his performances have also dipped in the IPL. Yes, last season went well for the former Mumbai Indians captain, but overall, he has lacked the cutting-edge in the IPL.

Only in the last two seasons has his strike-rate in the IPL improved, but before that, the numbers were dismal. Moreover, last year, he took retirement from Test cricket, and in the last few months, Rohit has not played a single competitive game.

Rohit has achieved everything in the IPL. He has won six IPL titles (joint-most), and has led his franchise to five championships, becoming the captain with the joint-most IPL championships.

Perhaps, this could be his last IPL season, and Rohit will be eager to end his journey on a high by capturing his seventh championship, the most in the tournament’s history.

2) Deepak Chahar

Deepak Chahar’s IPL numbers have gone downhill, and not only that, but his injury-track record keeps getting worse every year. An injury-prone pacer, Chahar’s bowling has looked ineffective in the last couple of IPL seasons, and the numbers reveal the story.

  • As the stats reveal, Chahar’s IPL numbers hardly look promising, with the pacer only picking 16 wickets in 22 matches. His economy also shot up last season as his pace has gone down, and the deadly swing is also missing from his arsenal.
  • Over the years, he has been an injury-prone bowler, and if this season, Chahar fails to make an impact, or his campaign is derailed by yet another serious injury, then he could be the one to call time on his IPL journey.

3) Quinton de Kock

In the IPL, Quinton de Kock has always blown hot and cold, but it has been for the Mumbai Indians that he has performed exceptionally well, scoring truckloads of runs and winning trophies. However, the current Quinton de Kock is not the same one that MI bought several years back, and the T20 World Cup 2026 gave a reality check.

He scored just 181 runs on flat wickets, with a strike rate of 135, and looked a pale shadow of his former self. Age is still by his side, but what if he fails to deliver in yet another IPL season? Will any team invest in the future? The answer is probably a no, and hence, the South African could take the harsh call by taking a retirement.
