Time to wrap up this coverage, folks! We hope you enjoyed this last-ball thriller. For now, itâs me, Deepak Prakash, signing off on behalf of co-commentator Dev Rajawat and scorer/analyst Ashok Dayma. CHEERS!
Mahedi Hasan (Chattogram Royals Captain): "It was a really tough game till the end, but thatâs how cricket is sometimes. I always say cricket is a funny game. The last inning is never easy, especially against a good side like that. But our bowlers did an outstanding job.
With the bat, our top order wasnât good enough today, but Nawaz played an exceptional innings, and I was happy to contribute a little as well. In the end, it worked out well for us. Games like this really help the dugout environment.
When itâs close, everyoneâs skill and temperament get tested, and coming through such moments builds a lot of confidence. Even when things were tight, the dugout stayed calm because Nawaz was still batting. When you have a batter like that at the crease, you trust the situation, because he has the power and the composure to finish the job, and he did that brilliantly.
Our bowling unit has been tremendous. Iâve been saying it for a while now - our bowlers know their roles and understand whatâs required. Theyâre capable of delivering consistently, and that showed again today.
In day games, especially, the toss becomes very important, and luckily, it went our way, which helped us bowl at the right time. This win is very important for us.
Being on top of the table is a great feeling, but we still have three games to go. If we can finish in the top two, it gives us a big advantage going forward."
Hasan Nawaz (POTM): "Yes, it was definitely difficult for batting. The spinners were getting good grip from the surface and we lost 4 wickets inside the powerplay. So the plan was to build small partnerships and take the game deep. Towards the end, the ball had become very soft, and it was hard to hit big shots, so the idea was to keep running hard and finish the game with twos.
You learn a lot when you come out of situations like this â it builds a lot of confidence and belief in yourself. The way we and our team handled the pressure today was really encouraging."
Player of the Match: Hasan Nawaz
It's time for the post-match presentation.......
Najmul Hossain Shanto (Rajshahi Warriors Captain): "Iâm really happy with the way our boys showed their skill and character in that game. It was a real fightback, and moments like that are exactly what we expect from this group. The effort, the intent, and the belief were there right till the end, and thatâs very pleasing as a captain.
In a situation like this, captaincy definitely challenges you in a positive way. We didnât have many runs to play with, so I had to think a lot, use different options, and take risks throughout the game. Thatâs part of T20 leadership. It wasnât easy, but Iâm especially proud of how the boys responded, particularly our fielding unit.
They fought till the last ball, and thatâs a big positive for us. Emotionally, it was a tough contest. With the bat, we have to be honest and say we didnât perform well. Some days are like that. Over the last four or five matches, weâve played good cricket, but today just wasnât our day.
As a batting unit, someone needs to take responsibility, and we couldnât manage that this time. Still, this can happen in a tournament like this. The important thing is to learn from it, think about where we can improve, and move forward.
Overall, Iâm proud of the fight we showed, and weâll take the positives into the next games."
5:07 PM IST, 5:37 PM Local Time: PHEW! The Bangladesh Premier League once again delivered a thrilling contest, producing yet another last-ball finish. Good running between the wickets on the final delivery from Shoriful Islam and Hasan Nawaz guided the Chattogram Royals to a dramatic two-wicket victory.
Earlier, Rajshahi Warriors endured a difficult outing with the bat as disciplined bowling from Chattogram Royals restricted them to a modest 128/ 9 in their 20 overs. Opting to field first, the Royals made full use of the conditions, never allowing the Warriors to settle, with only a handful of overs yielding quick runs. Early strikes in the Powerplay and a steady flow of wickets ensured Rajshahi were always playing catch-up. Muhammad Waseem and SM Meherob were the joint highest scorers for the Warriors, with both contributing 19 runs. The squeeze tightened through the middle and death overs as Mahedi Hasan (1/21), Tanvir Islam (2/26), Shoriful Islam (2/20), and Aamir Jamal (3/23) rotated cleverly and hit the right lengths. Hasan Nawaz also chipped in with a wicket in his two overs. Brief resistance from the lower order could not lift the scoring rate, with the last five overs producing very little momentum. In reply, the Royals got off to a horrible start, losing four wickets in the space of five deliveries between 3.3 and 4.2 overs to slump to 28/4. Mohammad Naim (7), Adam Rossington (17), Mahmudul Hasan Joy (4), and Shadman Islam (0) were the batters to depart, with SM Meherob and Binura Fernando doing the damage with the ball for the Warriors. Hasan Nawaz and Mahedi Hasan steadied the innings before Sandeep Lamichhane removed Royals skipper Mahedi for 28, ending their 40-run stand. Asif Ali then took time to settle and added 35 runs for the sixth wicket with Nawaz, but fell while trying to accelerate, leaving his side in a spot of bother.
Aamir Jamal (8) and Abu Hider Rony (1) followed suit in quick succession, but Nawaz kept his composure at the other end. With 10 needed off the final over, Nawaz smashed 8 off the first three balls before back-to-back dot balls left 2 required from the last delivery. Nawaz (35*) then drilled the yorker towards long-off and sprinted back for a couple to clinch a dramatic win.
Despite defending a modest total, the Warriorsâ bowlers produced a spirited fightback and pushed the game to the final ball. Binura Fernando led the way with three wickets, while SM Meherob picked up two. Ripon Mondol, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, and Sandeep Lamichhane chipped in with a wicket apiece.
