There can definitely be an argument that they should have finished it off earlier than they eventually did. However, as they say, all's well that ends well.
For the large part it felt like a race between two old, rusty cars that stuttered at regular intervals on their way to the finish line. As it turns out, the Strikers stuttered just a bit more. The match was played in conditions that resembled the English weather — it was chilly, windy and the skies were leaking for the major part. Funny enough, it was an English player who stood taller than the rest. Danielle Wyatt-Hodge, who now has 251* runs in this tournament, scored a solid 57-ball-72* and held up one end amidst some chaos and that ended up being the difference.
Hobart's start was excellent. Wyatt-Hodge unleashed one sumptuous shot after the other at the top to help get them to 50 in just 7 overs. Chasing a paltry looking 135, the rate of scoring seemed comfortable. However, it was an impressive spell from speedster Darcie Brown that turned the run chase on its head.
She got Lee to drag one onto her stumps, Carey to edge one to the first slip and bowled Graham through her defence. Sciver-Brunt's failure to execute a lap shot off her bowling cost the Hurricanes further. Then, Villani got runout to aggravate their problems.
Meanwhile, another English player made a handy contribution. Sophie Ecclestone bowled a miserly spell and also effected the crucial run out of the Hobart skipper. However, in the end, two crucial boundaries by Silver-Holmes in the final over took them over the line.
Earlier, the Strikers had struggled to get going in their batting innings. They only managed 3 boundaries off their first 10 overs, failing to garner any sort of momentum. Effervescent cameos from Patterson, captain McGrath and Wellington propelled them to a respectable score. For the home team, Graham and Carey picked two wickets each.
