Keep your umbrellas up if you are at the Junction Oval in Melbourne. The cricket has bid adieu for the day, and it is time to enjoy the water splashing.
On this note I, Manan Mehta would like to sign off on behalf of my co-commentators Akshay Bhide and Arijit Kundu. Our scorers for the day, Dushyant Madhukar Kumar and Paras Yadav deserve a shout out as well! See yaaa!!!
12:15 PM IST and 5:45 PM Local Time: Alas! The rain has the final say! It was turning out to be an exciting contest but the clouds in Melbourne had different ideas!
The Adelaide Strikers had won the bat flip and decided to bowl first. It was a decision that backfired to an extent as the Melbourne Stars put up a great show with the bat. There were some serious runs from the bat of Meg Lanning and captain Annabel Sutherland. The former got to 60 before being run out and the skipper stayed not out on quick 39 ball 54!
However, the real impetus came at the back end from Danielle Gibson who added 31 off just 15 balls. The Stars got 61 off the final 5 overs thanks to some indiscipline bowling from the visitors. That propelled their score to a very competitive 184/5.
From the Strikers, lead pacer Meghan Schutt had a day to forget as she leaked 50 runs off her quota. Others too went at 9s and 10s. Only Amanda-Jade Wellington had a day out with figures of 2/20 in her allotted four overs.
The Strikers in their chase lost Tammy Beaumont on the fourth ball to Marizanne Kapp. However, Laura Wolvaardt and Madeline Penna got things back on track and were scoring briskly before the rain started to pelt down. Could have been an exciting game but maybe for another day as of now!

12:10 PM IST, 5:40 PM Local Time: It continues to rain here at Junction Oval. The umpires have had enough and the match has been called off. Both sides will share a point each.
11:30 AM IST, 5 PM Local Time: The drizzle has gotten heavier now and the umpires call for covers. Out come the groundsmen with covers. The players rush off the field as it's absolutely pelting down at the moment.
4.2 M Gibson to M Penna
1 Fuller ball outside off stump, Penna swings hard as she carves it away towards sweeper for a single. Oops I think they are going off here! It is pelting down!
4.1 M Gibson to M Penna
6 Dispatched!!!! Much needed this for the Strikers! Gibson cannot grip the wet ball and spills it at waist height as Penna nails this slog over mid wicket for the first maximum of this innings!
First sign of spin in this innings. Maisy Gibson into the attack.
End of the powerplay. The Strikers Women are off to a steady start here. They are 25/1 after four overs. They lost Beaumont in the very first over but Penna and Wolvaardt have done well to steady the ship.
