That marks the end of our coverage of the first T20I of the 3-match series between Afghanistan and Bangladesh. It was a thrilling encounter. Bangladesh were in the driving seat till the first half of the chase and the courtesy goes to their openers. Twin fifties from Tanzid Hasan and Parvez Hossain took them to 109/0. But suddenly lost 6 wickets in the space of four overs. Nurul Hasan and Rishad Hossain then guided the visitors to the victory.

For now, this is Saptak Sanyal signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Ninaad Dixit and the scorer/analyst of this match Paras Yadav. Good night.
Jaker Ali (Bangladesh Captain): "It can happen in international cricket. They are a good side. I am pleased with the boys' performance. We started really well. Cricket is a funny game, they came hard but winning and losing matters so we won which is a good thing. There is room for improvement in bowling and batting both. Maybe tomorrow we will come back strongly.

The way we started, the bowlers doing a good job during the Asia Cup. We leaked some runs at the death, that is the area to improve.

End of the day winning and losing matters. This win gives us confidence and we are looking forward to tomorrow."
Rashid Khan (Afghanistan Captain): "I think you know to come back from where they started was good. I think we could've finished better. In T20, if you lose the momentum, it becomes difficult to make a comeback.

I think 170 would've been better. We didn't play better shots. I feel execution is the important. From Asia Cup to today, I think we have not done well in terms of shot selection and threw the wickets away. Ahead of the World Cup, we need to do better in a few areas.

I feel always everyone has to bring their natural game. I think it is better to give everybody their time. It is better for an attacking player to play attacking and not defensive. We have not bowled well in the first 6 overs. The problem was in execution. When we hit the stumps, we got the result in the last 10 overs.

A lot of positives. Hope we come back well tomorrow."
Parvez Hossain Emon (Player of the Match): "I enjoyed the opening partnership. I am trying to play according to merit. Rashid did well but Sohan bhai finished the game really well. We will try our best."

11:36 PM IST and 10:06 PM Local Time : Bangladesh have won the first game of the three-match T20I series. A humdinger of a contest to start the white ball series between Afghanistan and Bangladesh. The tourists have started the series with a victory.

Afghanistan skipper Rashid Khan decided to bat first after winning the toss. Ibrahim Zadran started the innings well hiting Taskin Ahmed for three boundaries but Afghanistan lost 3 wickets inside the powerplay and boarded just 33 on the board. Ibrahim, Atal and Rasooli were the batters to depart and Ishaq joined the procession just after the powerplay and it reduced the hosts to 40/4.

Azmatullah Omarzai and Rahmanullah Gurbaz then led the batting and added 33 for the 5th wicket. Omarzai scored run-a-ball 18 but Gurbaz top scored with 40 from 31 balls hitting 2 fours and 3 maximums. Mohammad Nabi gave the late impetus by hitting Taskin for three maximums just before his departure. He added 38 on the board from 25 balls. Sharafuddin Ashraf remained unbeaten on 17 from 12 balls to take the score to 151/9 at the end of the 20th over.

For Bangladesh, Rishad Hossain and Tanzim Hasan Sakib took a couple of wickets each. Taskin Ahmed, Nasum Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman took a wicket each.

Coming to chase the 152-run target, Bangladesh got off to a good start as Tanzid Hasan got a few boundaries in the start. Parvez Hossain Emon then joined him and the duo put the runs on the board in a jiffy. They didn't refrain from hitting big despite a few mistimed strokes. They targeted Mohammad Nabi and Sharafuddin Ashraf and hit the boundaries regularly. The opening partnership yielded 109 runs, their third highest in T20I history.

With 109/0 on the board, Bangladesh experienced a collapse. Fareed Malik trapped Emon on his pads as the Bangladeshi opener got out for 54 off 37 balls. Rashid Khan ran a carnage in the next over. He got the better of Saif Hassan and the well set Tanzid Hasan who scored 51 off 37 balls. Rashid then removed Jaker Ali and Shamim Hossain in th next over and finished with 4/18. Noor Ahmad removed Tanzim Hasan Sakib for a bronze duck and Bangladesh were 118/6. They were in complete sixes and sevens losing 6 wickets for just 9 runs in the space of 24 balls.

But Nurul Hasan and Rishad Hossain stayed calm. They played out the spinners and then took the attack to the pacers. They took 11 from the 18th over bowled by Fareed Malik and took the equation to 16 from 2 overs. Azmatullah Omarzai came to bowl the penultimate over and Nurul started the over with a maximum and in the next ball, he reverse ramped a full delivery over deep third man and that helped Bangladesh. Rishad got a top edge a couple of balls later and it went for a boundary and that was the winning stroke for Bangladesh. They won it by 4 wickets and with 8 balls to go.
