That is it from Christchurch today! The Wellington Firebirds were 13 runs better than their opponents in a rain affected contest. For Canterbury Kings they have a game left and a win could propel them to number 2 in the table.

The Kiwi carnival continues and we move to Napier tomorrow. The Central Stags will take on the Otago Volts.

On this note, I, Manan Mehta would like to sign off on behalf of my colleagues Ninaad Dixit and Ashok Dayma. B-byeeee!!!
Ben Sears (Player of the Match): "It was a good wicket. It was awesome to see Morgan go out at the top and it was nice we followed up with the ball.

It was nice to find a little bit of rhythm out there. There was a bit in the wicket so it was just nice to find some.

[on reluctant to walk out during rain delay] Bit disappointing during the rain delay being behind on DLS at the point so we wanted to stay out there and see if we could turn it around.

[on the group] It's really a good group of guys. Jugo's an awesome coach. Chucky and Tom have been awesome with the captaincy and just focus on the process and hopefully turn around into Ford Trophy.

[on the week long gap between Ford Trophy] Bit of training in between. We will obviously put in some yards and see where we get to."

2:03 PM IST and 9:33 PM Local Time: Wellington Firebirds win by 13 runs (DLS)! Superb finish to an ordinary campaign by the Wellington Firebirds! The game had its ebbs and flows, but the Firebirds rode them better and managed to sneak out a win.

The Wellington Firebirds won the toss and elected to bat first. Sam Morgan and Tom Blundell came out all guns blazing. The notched up 74 in the powerplay with Morgan being the main aggressor. He brought up 50 in just 20 balls.

Once the field was spread Lachie Harper and Cole McConchie curved the scoring rate with some superb bowling. They kept things tight and the openers slowed down. They though continued to bat along without letting a wicket fall. The first wicket finally fell when the score was 118 in the 13th over. Morgan was sent on his way for a well made 71.

That over from Harper was a double wicket maiden as the score became 118/2 in no time. The Firebirds further slipped to 148/5. The scoring was curbed big time and out of the five wickets Harper took 4 in his superb spell.

Oscar Jackson though made sure that the Firebirds finish with some late order hits as he nailed 35 off 16 balls. He made sure the score was pushed to 178. The Kings made a great comeback with the ball as at one stage it looked like the score would cross 230. The pick of the bowlers for the Kings was Lachie Harper (4-17).

The chase started on a fine note for the Kings. Rhys Mariu and Henry Nicholls took off in similar fashion as their opponents. They raced to 47 inside 5 overs, before Mariu skied one and was dismissed. As soon as the Kings crossed 50 post the 5th over, the rain gods showered in. The players were taken off and there was a 20 minute break. The revised target was 150 in 16 overs. At resumption the Kings needed 99 off 64 balls.

Nicholls and Matt Boyle continued in fine fashion after the rain break. They stitched a quick 42 runs stand with both batters finding the boundary regularly. That is when Logan van Beek was brought back into the attack and he broke the partnership by taking out Nicholls for a well made 41. Ben Sears struck twice in the next over removing captain Cole McConchie and Matt Boyle. The Kings all of a sudden from 89/1 slipped to 95/4. They needed 55 more runs at that point in 30 balls with two new batters at the crease.

The pressure was too much, and the Kings kept losing wickets regularly. They finished with 136/8 in their allotted 16 overs. Ben Sears was the pick of the bowlers with 4-25 in his 4 overs. His extra pace complimented with smart change ups made the difference in defending the total!

2 Full ball outside off stump, Muller backs away and carves it over the covers fielder. The batters come back for two runs! The Firebirds finish the season with a win! Done and Dusted! The Wellington Firebirds win by 13 runs (DLS Method).
16 runs required from the final ball, Muller will be on strike. Wellington stay alive in the competition with this win.
