Harjot Johal:"(Whether he was nervous ahead of his debut) Last night, couldn't sleep until 12. Was rolling around for a bit. I just backed my processes. Not really. I was just told to be prepared. I thought the wind was playing a big part and the slower ones were sticking. Shout-out to my parents and everyone for coming out."
Harjot Johal has been named as the 'Player of the Match'.
12:14 PM IST, 7:44 PM Local Time: Cam Fletcher finishes things in style, and Auckland Aces win by 5 wickets with 4 balls to spare.
Earlier, after opting to bat first, Wellington recovered from a shaky start to post a strong 187/7, thanks mainly to Jesse Tashkoffâs superb 83 off 39 balls. Aucklandâs seamers, Ryan Harrison, Simon Keene, and Angus Olliver, struck early to leave Wellington reeling at 43/4 in the Powerplay. However, Tashkoff kept the scoring moving and found good support from Gareth Severin, with the pair adding a 100-run partnership to revive the innings. Severin was eventually dismissed by debutant Harjot Johal, who went on to remove Tashkoff and Logan van Beek to finish with three wickets. Van Beek had earlier chipped in with a quick 24 off 13 balls, helping Wellington reach a competitive total at the end of their 20 overs. Openers Dale Phillips and Simon Keene set the tone with a quick start, adding 36 for the first wicket. Phillips continued to play freely, striking 37 off 27 balls, while Keene chipped in with a brisk 21. Although Martin Guptill couldnât fully settle and made 19, Auckland kept the momentum going and reached 108/3 by the 12th over. The chase was then taken charge of by Bevon Jacobs, who played a superb innings of 54 off 30 balls, smashing four sixes to swing the game firmly in Aucklandâs favour. He found support from Lachlan Stackpole before Cam Fletcher and Ryan Harrison finished the job in style. Fletcher remained unbeaten on 15 off 8 balls, while Harrison struck a rapid 21 off 11, including four boundaries, to seal the chase with four balls to spare. For Wellington, Nick Greenwood was the pick of the bowlers with 2 for 20, while Peter Younghusband (1/23) bowled economically and took a wicket. However, the rest of the attack struggled to contain Aucklandâs aggressive batting, allowing the hosts to overhaul the target comfortably.
