Match Details
11:54 PM IST, 10:24 PM Local Time: A pretty one-sided game in the end as Pakistan triumphed by 31 runs to hand-over UAE their third defeat of the Tri-series. With this result, we have our finalists of this competition as UAE can no longer make it to the final which will be competed by Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Chasing 172 for victory, UAE didn’t lose a wicket in the Powerplay but most importantly ended up making only 41 runs. After creating some doubts in the 5th over itself, Abrar Ahmed got a deserved wicket as Muhammad Waseem offered an easy catch to Faheem Ashraf at backward point while looking to slog the ball over mid-wicket. The scoring rate only dipped further after that as the hosts got to 58/1 at the half-way stage needing 114 off 60 balls for victory.
Alishan Sharafu finally broke the deadlock with a couple of
sixes in the 11th over but Mohammad Nawaz got rid of Ethan D’Souza
at the end of the same over. Abrar was then brought back into the attack in the
13th over and he took two big wickets in the form of Asif Khan and
Rahul Chopra even though the latter could perhaps count himself unlucky with
his LBW dismissal.
Alishan Sharafu, at one end, continued to fight a lone battle as he struck a maximum off Saim Ayub's bowling in the 15th over to bring his fifty up off 38 balls. Pakistan though continued to strengthen their position as Abrar went onto finish his spell with figures of 4/9
including the dismissal of Harshit Kaushik off his last ball.
UAE's last hope was also removed when Sharafu was caught superbly at mid-off by Salman Ali Agha off Shaheen Afridi's bowling. From there, it was just a formality as Haider Ali and Dhruv Parashar batted out some deliveries. Parashar finished unbeaten on 18 off 15 balls but it wasn't enough with his team falling short by 31 runs.
Earlier in the match, Sahibzada continued his trend of failing to convert starts as he got out to Dhruv Parashar in the 3rd over after making 16 off 11 balls. Runs kept coming at a good rate for Pakistan but Saim Ayub and Salman Ali Agha were sent back by Junaid Siddique and Rohid Khan as the team got to 50/3 at the end of the Powerplay.
The innings continued to nose-dive with Mohammad Haris being trapped in front on the last ball of the 10th over by Haider Ali after the keeper-batsman made 14 off 17 balls. A couple of overs later, Haider struck again with Hasan Nawaz nicking behind to Rahul Chopra which reduced Pakistan to 80/5 after 11.3 overs.
While Fakhar Zaman held the innings together on his own, scoring was still difficult for Pakistan but the turning point of the game came in the 16th over when both Fakhar and Mohammad Nawaz were dropped off consecutive balls from Haider's bowling. Thereafter, there was no looking back for both Fakhar and Nawaz as they took advantage of some loose bowling from the hosts. Junaid Siddique was smashed for 20 runs in the penultimate over while Muhammad Jawadullah ended up conceding 22 runs off the final over with Fakhar managing five consecutive boundaries to complete the innings.
