That's it from another high octane encounter in the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025! New Zealand finally rising in the points table with their first victory. Bangladesh showing some fight but not enough to get over the line tonight. That will be it from our coverage of the match. Ninaad Dixit here signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Akshay Bhide, scorer Bishal Mandal and statistician Aman. Stay tuned for more action from around the world.
Sophie Devine (New Zealand Women Captain): "Really pleasing for this side to get on the board. Tough circumstances with the bat for both Brooke and me. But we accepted the fact that it won't be easy. And the bowlers did the rest.

I was running a bit low with the sugar levels. Just tried to take some sugar and jellies. Just another challenge in the conditions that are already tough. It's all part and parcel of diabetes and playing at this level.

Mair showed what we were missing with the ball upfront. Attacking the stumps. Lea also bowled beautifully and I thought she lost six kgs due to sweat judging by her shirt. Good performance in her 100th ODI.

First game against Australia, we were good. Against South Africa as well, we were good in some phases. Anyone can beat anyone. Bangladesh pushed England the other day. With the weather around and run rate, every point is gold. We will take every game as it comes."
Nigar Sultana (Bangladesh Women Captain): "Whatever we did in the last game, we tried to repeat the positives. We are not being consistent as a batting team.

We bowled well in the start. We didn't get the expected performance from Marufa but the other bowlers bowled around her and did really well including all the spinners. After 40 overs they played their shots and we leaked many boundaries.

[Plan against Halliday-Devine] We had to bowl in the right areas and not give any freebies. We tried our best to keep things simple and execute the game plan but they are very experienced and played their game easily.

[Takeaways from the game] There are a lot of things we need to learn. Lower middle order is doing its best to get runs. For other teams those batters are winning the games. We should play like that.

[Lack of matches against big sides] We just get to play against the top sides when we play the ICC tournaments. We have lack of experience over there. We just wanted to play our normal game.

[Message before the next game] I am hoping that the bowlers will continue the same way, the batters need to step up.
Lowest Innings Total for Bangladesh in Women’s ODI World Cup:

119/10 vs India at Hamilton, 2022

127/10 vs New Zealand at Guwahati, TONIGHT*

134/10 vs England at Wellington, 2022
Brooke Halliday (Player of the Match): "I guess the biggest thing after the couple of days was being okay with getting ones and being okay with being boring. We knew what the plan was. Bat long till the 40th over and then have the party time.

We faced some net bowlers in the last few sessions and that type of bowling is what we got today. It was about watching the ball today and playing according to the merit of it.

It was kind of talked about that. I tried and practiced a lot playing the sweep shot. I got out playing that. But there are plenty of perks and I try to keep improving my game.

It's easy to bat with Sophie. It wasn't easy to bat in the middle. It was quite hot. We just wanted to hit boundary at one stage. Sophie keeps it simple and it helps me.

What we did well today was keep it simple with the ball. Mair and Jess Kerr did well with the ball. Melie did what she always does. We kept it simple with the ball and it worked for us."
Player of the Match: Brooke Halliday
9:43 PM: New Zealand register their first victory of the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 defeating Bangladesh by a mammoth 100 runs at Guwahati. Skipper Sophie Devine played another brilliant knock with the bowlers coming together to skittle Bangladesh for 127.

New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat first in a bid to utilize the used pitch early on. Half centuries from Devine (63) and Brooke Halliday (69) put helped them put on 227/9 in their 50 overs. Rabeya Khan impressed with 3/30 in her 10 over spell for Bangladesh.

In response the Bangladesh batting order completely lost the plot losing 3 wickets in the powerplay to Rosemary Mair and Jess Kerr. It was number 6 batter Fahima Khatun who top scored with 34 and was one of three batters to score into double digits. The other two being Rabeya Khan (25) and Nahida Akter (17).

Jess Kerr returned to pick up another wicket and finished with 3/21 in 8 overs. Lea Tahuhu in her 100th ODI returned with 3/22 in 6 overs. Rosemary Mair picked up 2/20 in her first appearance of this tournament. Amelia Kerr (1/23 in 10) and Eden Carson (1/13) were miserly in the spin department. The off spinner Carson picked up the final wicket in the 40th over.

With a better net run rate, New Zealand move up to number 5, a spot ahead of Bangladesh who have now lost 2 games to 1 victory which they gained against Pakistan. New Zealand will next face Sri Lanka in Colombo on Tuesday, Bangladesh to play South Africa in Visakhapatnam on Monday.
