So, that is it from myself, Karthik Raj, my co-commentator, Ajay and our scorer for this game, Ashok Dayma as we wrap up the coverage of this fixture. Do stay tuned for more MLC and other cricketing clashes on Thursday!
Marcus Stoinis (Texas Super Kings Stand-in Captain): "Good for our result. The boys did really well. Don (Donovan Ferreira) set it alight, Akeal (Akeal Hosein) bowled superbly. Always in a short game, you want to chase but when you put on so many runs, it puts pressure on the opposition.
(About retiring out Daryl Mitchell)I think it is going to be used more and more. It was only a five-over game, we thought of sending Don for the last three overs. I wouldn't read too much into it from a five-over point of view. We were always planning to bowl Akeal in one of the first two overs and then plan according to that. Once we saw that there was help for spinners, went through with that."
Donovan Ferreira (MVP): "That was good. Yeah, but I mean, I lost to Fleming on the golf course. I needed to make some money back, I needed to put in a performance to get the awards. I am glad I did it for the team in a game like this where we needed a big score against these guys.
Flem said be ready, we are going to take Mitch out. Luckily for us, it paid off. It was just one of the nights. I am not sure if that's 106m (six), it looked bigger but that one in Wanderers looked bigger in SA20."
Most Valuable Player of the Match: Donovan Ferreira
Play of the Day: Akeal Hosein
Power Hitter of the Day: Donovan Ferreira
Time for the Post-Match Presentation!
Glenn Maxwell (Washington Freedom Captain): "Well, if we were able to change our team, we probably would have. They had two world class spinners in their XI. We had 2 all-rounders. We were trying to go with what worked for us. First three overs went to plan, they bowled nicely.
I think they had the score on the board. You need a lot to go right when you are chasing a target like that. We needed momentum all the way through the innings. Two world class spinner on a wicket that was going to turn. Unfortunately, we didn't have that available to us."
08:28 PM IST, 10:58 PM Local Time: A dominant performance with bat and ball from TSK as they seal a 43-run victory. The win was definitely set-up by Shubham Ranjane and Donovan Ferreira's fireworks with the bat but the trio of Nandre Burger, Akeal Hosein and Noor Ahmad also impressed with the ball in difficult conditions.
Chasing 88 runs in 5 overs for victory, Rachin Ravindra started the innings well but Nandre Burger came back well to remove the Kiwi and Glenn Maxwell in the first over itself. Mitchell Owen struck the first ball of the 2nd over from Akeal Hosein for a maximum but the left-arm spinner came back superbly to bowl five dot balls after that which included the scalp of the Aussie batter as well.
Thereafter, the asking rate kept rising as Noor Ahmad and Akeal bowled useful overs. In the final over, Noor castled Andries Gous to add a wicket to his tournament tally while TSK managed to restrict Freedom to just 44/4 in the end.
