Rassie van der Dussen (South Africa Captain): "It was great to see the fearlessness of the younger players — Brevis and Rubin Hermann really stood out. Losing early wickets is never ideal, but the partnership they built was exceptional and came at the right time. We lost a couple of overs with the ball due to delays, but overall, I'm pretty satisfied with the team's performance. Dewald has had a fantastic 6–13 months, featuring in the IPL and SA20. Despite being young, he's already gained valuable experience. Rubin has been impressive in the domestic scene, and today, he showed great composure — he didn’t look out of place at all. It was brilliant to watch. As for Ngidi, he was outstanding. Taking the new ball, he really set the tone early on and was well supported by the rest of the bowling unit. Out of the 20 overs, maybe we lost control in a couple, but otherwise, the bowlers stayed calm and executed the plans well. I'm really pleased with the bowling effort. The pitch was good — there was a bit in it but not too much. We weren’t entirely sure what to expect. Lungi managed to get some seam movement, and Zimbabwe got the ball to swing as well. Once the ball softened, it started coming onto the bat a bit more consistently."
Dewald Brevis (POTM): "When I made my mark there, it was a huge honour to represent South Africa once again. I just wanted to enjoy the moment and stick to what I do best. I'm extremely grateful and happy to help the team get over the line. I was focused on watching the ball and targeting the shorter boundary whenever the opportunity came. God has blessed me with some talent, and I’m truly thankful for that. The situation was quite clear — we were in a tricky spot, but just a few boundaries away from getting back in control. There was no need to panic. It wasn’t a huge target; we just had to stay calm, keep it simple, and back ourselves."
Player of the Match: Dewald Brevis
Sikandar Raza (Zimbabwe Captain): "I felt we got a bit stuck during the middle phase of our innings with the bat. Credit to George Linde — he bowled really well. But now that we’ve had a look at the surface, we understand it better. Batting against the new ball in winter conditions is always a challenge, but there’s still room for improvement on our part. Richard Ngarava is a fearless cricketer who’s always working hard to get better. Trevor Gwandu is also starting to find his rhythm, and Blessing, of course, continues to be a reliable presence for us. It's going to take patience and persistence as we continue to grow. I try to bring back lessons from franchise cricket and pass them on to the team.
The scoreboard might not always show our progress, but we’re on the right path. We just have to keep pushing and ensure our standards keep rising."
Time for the post-match presentation.....
7:38 PM IST, 4:08 PM Local Time: A comfortable chase for South Africa as they chase down 142 runs with 5 wickets and 25 balls to spare, starting the tri-series on a high note. It looked like Zimbabwe would give a tough fight to the Proteas, but the partnership between Dewald Brevis and Rubin Hermann turned the game completely in favour of the visitors.
Earlier, after being invited to bat first, Zimbabwe lost Wessly Madhevere (1) and Clive Madande (8) cheaply. Brian Bennett took his time to settle on the crease but failed to convert his start into a big score, departing for 30 runs off 28 balls. Zimbabwe were reeling at 53/3 in the 11th over, but Sikandar Raza and Ryan Burl paired up in the middle and steadied the ship for the hosts. The duo added 66 runs for the 4th wicket, but Nandre Burger trapped Burl for 29 runs and broke the partnership. Raza led from the front and did the bulk of scoring for the hosts, remaining unbeaten on 55 runs and helping his side post 142/6 in 20 overs. George Linde shone with the ball for South Africa, claiming three wickets for just 10 runs in 3 overs, while Lungi Ngidi, Nandre Burger, and Nqabayomzi Peter chipped in with one wicket each. In reply, South Africa lost Reeza Hendricks (11) and the debutant Lhuan-dre Pretorius (0) cheaply, with Richard Ngarava removing both openers in a jiffy. Rassie van der Dussen looked promising with a few crisp boundaries but couldn't capitalise on his start, departing for 16 off 13 balls. The Proteas were reeling at 38/3 inside the powerplay before Rubin Hermann and Dewald Brevis shifted the momentum. Brevis (41) unleashed an aggressive counterattack, while fellow debutant Hermann (45) provided a steady hand at the other end. The duo stitched together a vital 72-run stand for the fourth wicket, though both narrowly missed out on their maiden T20I fifties. In the end, Corbin Bosch (23*) and George Linde (3*) guided South Africa home comfortably, sealing a 5-wicket win with 25 balls to spare.
Zimbabwe’s bowlers were right on the money in the first half of the innings but lost momentum as the game progressed. Richard Ngarava starred with three wickets, while Trevor Gwandu chipped in with a couple for the hosts.
