Player Bio

Rubin Hermann is a talented South African wicketkeeper-batter who has steadily made his mark in domestic cricket. Hermann grew up in a Pretoria-based cricket-loving family, and in fact, his younger brother, Jordan Hermann, is also a first-class cricketer. The two often pushed each other in backyard games, with Rubin sharpening his wicketkeeping skills while trying to outscore his brother, a rivalry that helped fuel his competitive spirit from a young age.

Hermann made his first-class debut for Northerns in 2017 and has since been a consistent performer across formats. Again in 2017, he announced himself in List A cricket with a sparkling century on debut, showcasing his ability to balance composure with flair. In the CSA Provincial competitions, he has often been among the most dependable batters for Northerns, building innings under pressure and guiding his side through tricky situations. His batting has been characterised by fluent stroke play, particularly through the off side, while sharp reflexes and clean hands have marked his wicketkeeping.

In early 2025, Hermann finished as the fifth-highest run-getter of that particular edition of the SA20 tournament. Playing for Paarl Royals, he scored 333 runs in nine games at an average of 42.

Later that year, the 1997-born cricketer was named in the squad for the Zimbabwe T20I tri-series (which also featured New Zealand). He describes the phone call from Proteas team management informing him about his selection in the squad as "probably one of the most important calls" of his life.

Rubin made his T20I debut against Zimbabwe in July 2025, and he immediately made an impact by scoring a match-winning 45 in the game. However, the Pretoria-born boy was a bit "irritated" for not being able to stay unbeaten and finish the game.

However, more was in store for him in 2025. Playing for South Africa A, Rubin scored a match-winning 158* in a chase of 230 runs against New Zealand A. Three days later, in the next match of the series, both he and his brother Jordan scored a ton each and an unassailable 2-0 lead in their three-match unofficial ODI series against the Kiwis.

Away from the field, Hermann is known to be a light-hearted and approachable individual. Friends recall his tendency to bring humour into tense situations, whether in the dressing room or on long bus rides. Balancing seriousness with levity, he remains a grounded figure whose love for the game continues to drive his journey forward in South African cricket.
