Beth Mooney (Hero of the Match): "Yeah, got a bit tight in the end. Paige in the end with that six, certainly made me work hard.
It is just one game of short form cricket. You cannot really get too high or too low. I was pleased to see Bryce come out and hit the ball like that, she is a special player. You can lose a quick few wickets and the pressure gets to you.
It is difficult when you don't get enough strike, the format is such that you can get stranded away from the strike.
I have seen Meg win a lot of games chasing like that. She has been an amazing player over the years. Glad to get that catch in the end."
Hero of the Match: Beth Mooney
6:04 PM IST, 1:34 PM Local Time: In a final ball thriller, Manchester Originals on the back of a magnificent first innings knock from Beth Mooney and a sensational spell from Sophie Ecclestone accompanied by Amelia Kerr, won the match by 2 run.
Oval Invincibles won the toss and invited the Originals to bat first. The two openers started cautiously and after the initial swing was cut, Katheryn Bryce took charge in the powerplay.
After the opening breakthrough, Beth Mooney was left stranded on one end, as wickets kept tumbling from the other end. Beth Mooney stood firm and charged her way to survival. She took charge, and played a captain's knock getting her team to an above par total at the end of 100 balls. She ended up at 70 off 45, with 10 fours in the inning, taking the Originals to a score of 139/6. South African Legend, Marizanne Kapp was the pick of the bowlers in the first innings, with her 2 wickets for 22 runs in her 20 balls.
Coming out to chase 140, Oval Invincibles were off to a flying start. Lauren Winfield-Hill took charge upfront, bringing the Originals under pressure straight away. The opening partnership lasted 52 runs, until her dismissal. This was followed by a dip in scoring rate, bringing the Originals, right back into the contest.
Meg Lanning, held the ground firm from one end, keeping the Invincibles hope alive till the very end. She scored 56 off 42 balls, with 8 fours and a six in it. With the help of this inning, Invincibles kept the asking rate under control and marched forward. She has scored back to back half centuries in the season so far, taking her off to a great start.
Economical Spells from Sophie Ecclestone and Amelia Kerr, didn't allow the Invincibles to get ahead of the asking rate and both the bowlers picked one wicket a piece. Finally when the dust settled, at the end of the 100 balls, Manchester Originals found themselves two runs in front, ensuring that they open their account in this season of the Women's Hundred.
