Sonny Baker (Player of the Match):"Massive. Tough start to the season but great to turn it around today especially against a side. Was just looking to bowl fast. Was a bit nervous bowling to David Warner. He is a tough competitor and has been one of the world's best for a long time. Enjoyed the challenge bowling to him.
First game, bowling with the new ball alongside Jimmy Anderson from the Anderson end was pretty surreal. It is what I find fun about the game to be honest. Since I was young, wanted to bowl fast."
Sonny Baker has been named as the 'Player of the Match'.
1:51 AM IST & 9:21 PM Local Time: Thatâs all from Old Trafford, where the Manchester Originals finally break their 6-match losing streak at home with a 10-run victory â their first win of the season. The London Spirit slump to their second loss of the campaign!
Earlier in the day, Phil Salt won the toss and opted to bat first without any hesitation. The Originals launched the innings in flying fashion, posting 57/1 in the powerplay, Phil Salt (31 off 20) and Ben McKinney (29 off 12) punishing any loose deliveries. McKinney fell early in the fifth set, offering Olly Stone a breakthrough, though the scoring rate remained healthy.
Salt and Buttler added 38 runs for the second wicket before the Originalsâ skipper fell for 31. Jos Buttler (46 off 37) and Heinrich Klaasen (24 off 17) forged a vital partnership to rebuild the innings. Klaasen, though never wholly timing his shots, kept the scoreboard ticking before Stone ended his knock against the run of play. Soon after, Jafer Chohan accounted for Mark Chapman, caught superbly by Kane Williamson at extra-coverâyet another momentum check for the Originals.
Just as Buttler looked set for his first fifty of the season, Jamie Overton pulled off a sharp catch off Gleeson to dismiss him at 46âjust four runs shy of the mark. Overton struck again, prising out Lewis Gregory with a well-directed short ball. The Originals added a few late hits, including a boundary off the final ball by Scott Currie, rounding their total to 163/6 in 100 balls.
n reply, London Spirit made a blazing start with David Warner leading from the front, taking on the bowlers in the powerplay and finding boundaries with ease. Kane Williamson, however, struggled for fluency right from the outset, battling against tight lines and eventually falling for 19. Warner looked in sublime touch, carrying the chase almost single-handedly as wickets kept tumbling at the other end.
The turning point came when Josh Tongue dismissed Warner for a brilliant 71, leaving the visitors with a lot to do in the final sets. Brief cameos from Ashton Turner (13 off 7) and Jamie Overton (19 off 7) gave the Spirit a glimmer of hope, but the pressure of the rising asking rate proved too much. In the end, they fell 10 runs short, as the Manchester Originals held their nerve to secure their first win of the season and snap a six-match losing streak at Old Trafford.
