Earlier, after being invited to bat first, Tawanda Muyeye (37) and Daniel Bell-Drummond (19) added 46 runs for the first wicket and provided a decent start to Kent. Joe Denly, who came out to bat at number four, scored briskly and contributed 40 runs off 22 balls to keep the momentum going.
Surrey bowlers staged a comeback in the latter half of the innings and grabbed wickets at regular intervals, but Jack Leaning (24) and Thomas Stewart Rogersâ (18*) rapid knocks at the tail end propelled Kent to over 170 runs in 20 overs.
