02:00 AM IST, 09:30 PM Local Time: What a feast for the fans at Grace Road, Leicester as the Leicestershire and Durham played out a thriller with the hosts winning the game by six runs in the end. Matt Salisbury came up with perfect execution to defend 13 runs off the final over.
Chasing 194 for victory, Graham Clark got off to a flier as he smacked the Foxes’ bowlers to all parts of the ground. However, it was perhaps one shot too many for Clark as he holed out to deep mid-wicket off Roman Walker’s bowling after hitting the two previous two deliveries for maximums. Colin Ackermann came in and started with a lot of intent but his breezy knock was cut short by Logan van Beek just as the Powerplay was about to end.
Then, Leicestershire began to tie down the Durham batters as the pair of Tom Scriven and Liam Trevaskis came up with a few economical overs. Scriven got the reward for it as well with Alex Lees finding Shan Masood’s safe hands at long-off in the 9th over. Durham began to lose their way as Leicestershire skipper Louis Kimber got rid of Ollie Robinson in the very next over.
Tom Scriven added another scalp as Ben Raine struck the ball straight to Roman Walker who took a good low catch at mid-on. The score soon read as 94/6 as James Neesham miscued a reverse-sweep off Kimber to Liam Trevaskis at covers. Just as the game seemed over, Kasey Aldridge and Will Rhodes joined forces to silently build a partnership which saw boundaries come with good frequency.
With 33 runs required off the last 12 balls, Rhodes went berserk as he managed to take 20 runs off Logan van Beek’s bowling. Durham seemed to have their noses in front but Matt Salisbury executed his skills superbly to win the game for Leicestershire by six runs!
