That's all we have for you from this fixture between Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. Uttar Pradesh have progressed to the Quarter-Finals and will face Delhi on 11th December at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
For now, this is Pritam Dey signing off on behalf of my co-commentators Deepak Prakash & Aditya Agarwal who, along with scorer/analyst Manish Bishnoi brought all the actions of this clash. Stay tuned for more cricketing action from around the world.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar ( Uttar Pradesh Captain): "We definitely felt nervous at the end when we lost back to back wickets. There are a few things that we need to improve going in to the next match. I think that's a part and parcel of the T20 format. Overall, we are playing a good brand of cricket and we want to continue it."
Vipraj Nigam (Player of the Match): "Well, actually the reason why I was picked in this side was for both my batting as well as for my bowling. It is a special feeling for me to get the job done for my side in a knockout game.
Rinku bhaiya was at the other end and I just wanted to support him.
The pitch played really well. Whatever we had planned worked out for us and that is the reason why we were confident on chasing a target of something around 160.
Player of the Match - Vipraj Nigam
Ricky Bhui (Andhra Captain) : " I think they( Vipraj and Rinku) really played well. We should have played better in the powerplay. Our batters didn't apply themselves and hence we fell 15-20 runs short. The wicket was a bit stickier and the ball was coming slow on the bat."
Time for the post match presentations.
7:55 PM IST & Local Time| There it is! What a mouth watering contest we have witnessed at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium between Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh. The credit goes to the match winning unbeaten partnership between Rinku Singh & Vipraj Nigam who have sealed the win for their side. Uttar Pradesh have booked their spot in the Quarter-Finals of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, 2024.
Earlier after being invited to bat first, Andhra posted 154/6 in 20 overs. They were rocked hard by UP bowlers early in the innings as they were three down for just 38 runs in 7 overs at one stage of game. Pyla Avinash (19) and Ricky Bhui (23) steadied the sinking ship for a while by adding 35 runs for the fourth wicket but both set batters went back in the hut in the span of 10 balls, leaving their side reeling at 86/5 in the 14th over.
At one stage, it seemed challenging for Andhra to even reach the 140-run mark. However, SDNV Prasad contributed a valuable 34* runs, the highest individual score of the innings, while KV Sasikanth’s unbeaten 8-ball 23-run cameo propelled Ricky Bhui’s side to a total of 156 runs in their 20-over quota.
Vipraj Nigam and Bhuvneshwar Kumar bagged two wickets each for UP, while Mohsin Khan and Shivam Mavi contributed one wicket. So the target for Uttar Pradesh was 157 from their 20 overs.
In reply, the openers of UP got their side to a flying start. Karan Sharma (48) made the bulk of the runs in the powerplay and the duo of Karan Sharma and Aryan Juyal added up a 70-run opening stand.
All of a sudden in the 9th over, both the openers were dismissed by Sudharsan in the same over and the door opened for Andhra Pradesh. From 70/0 at one stage, UP lost half of their side for 107. They lost wickets in clusters but the momentum completely shifted towards Andhra Pradesh.
It was the match winning unbeaten 7th wicket partnership between Rinku Singh and Vipraj Nigam who took their side over the line with an over to spare. Sensational cameo from Vipraj Nigam (27* off 8) and Rinku Singh (27* off 22) as Uttar Pradesh have progressed to the Quarter-Finals of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, 2024.
Kodavandla Sudharsan (3/22) was the pick of the bowlers for Andhra Pradesh but it went in vain. So, Uttar Pradesh have defeated Andhra Pradesh by 4 wickets! Stay tuned for the Post-Match Presentation.
