That's it from the coverage of this game between Toyam Hyderabad up against Gujarat Greats with Gujarat coming out on top today. Stay tuned for more cricketing actions across the globe and across formats in our network.
For now, this is Ayan Chatterjee signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Saptak Sanyal alongside scorer/analyst Paras Yadav. Stay safe, happy, and cool. Goodnight and CHEERS!
Shikhar Dhawan (Gujarat Greats Captain): "Yes, really enjoyed. Playing a game after a long time. It was hot. Very happy that we won. Yes, great knock after keeping early on and then those clean hits were awesome. I really enjoyed the batting with him and it was a great partnership out there. Yes, it was not an easy wicket, we did well and won the game. Less pressure here and I feel the same about the pressure. I really like the chilled out conditions and happy to get the win in the end. Thank You."
Morne van Wyk(Legend of the Match):"I'm not sure about playing international cricket again but I'm enjoying my time here. It is good to be able to time the ball. I was conscious to play the balls in the death overs as the ball was sticking off the surface. In these conditions, taking the game deep becomes the key. When r=the target was within 20 from the final two overs, I knew it was gettable."
Legend of the Match: Morne van Wyk.
Game Changer of the Match: Liam Plunkett.
Time for the post match presentations,
Suresh Raina(Toyam Hyderabad Captain):"Absolutely, the way Morne played was fabulous. We were a few runs short. Udana bowled well. We bowled Shinwari today but he gave a freebie unfortunately. The partnership between More and Shikhar was crucial. They put on runs on the board and played the spinners well.
I wish I had played two or three more overs. I was timing the ball well and I got out at wrong time and that made us fall 15-20 runs short."
6:41 PM IST and Local Time: What a terrific display we have seen today from Morne van Wyk. He has carried his bat and remained unbeaten on 116* to take his side the Gujarat Greats to an 8-wicket win with 3 balls to spare. It is an individual effort and for Hyderabad it's now two loses in a row for Suresh Raina and his men.
Chasing 173 for the win, Morne van Wyk was the star as he started off briskly and stayed unbeaten on 115* off 69 balls. He was the catalyst for this win. Shikhar Dhawan scored 21 off 20 balls at the top of the order. Lendl Simmons the Impact Player scored 20 off 18 balls while Yashpal Singh scored 13* off 11 balls in the end. But it was the Morne van Wyk show and it meant the target was achieved in 19.3 overs with 5 extras given by the fielding side.
A wicket for Isuru Udana as he gave away 24 runs in his 4 overs. A wicket for Gurkeerat Singh Mann as well as he finished with 1/17 in 3 overs. The rest of the bowlers remained wicketless today.
Earlier in the game, Toyam Hyderabad won the toss and elected to bat first. They got off to a solid start courtesy of the openers Chadwick Walton and George Worker. Worker was the first to depart for 13 while Walton made 17 off 12 balls. Rikki Clarke made 15 off 17 balls. The captain Suresh Raina looked good for his 44 off 27 balls. Gurkeerat Singh Mann scored a quickfire 26 off 19 balls. Peter Trego once again played a useful cameo of 36* off 25 balls. 9 extras given by the fielding side as they ended with 172/7 in 20 overs.
Liam Plunkett was the pick of the bowlers for Gujarat Greats with figures of 2/25 in 4 overs. A couple of wickets also for Manan Sharma and Sekkuge Prasanna. A wicket also to Shannon Gabriel. Ishwar Pandey remained wicketless.
So, a win by 8 wickets with 3 balls to spare for the Gujarat Greats over Toyam Hyderabad. Stay tuned for the presentations.
