So, that also brings a wrap to our coverage of this game between Pretoria Capitals and Paarl Royals. For now, this is me Hiren Kumar signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Ajay and scorer/analyst Zeeshan Naiyer. CHEERS! BYE
David Miller (Paarl Royals Captain): "Good to win this one in front of the crowd. It is tough to play here. Personally, I have never seen that (20 overs of spin). Need to check some stats if that has ever happened. We had spoken about this. At this stage, it is about doing the boring things right and do well in what you can. It has been a busy little week. We have a game on Monday. We have 2 days of rest. Need to be freshly mentally at this stage of the tournament. Thank you"
Rilee Rossouw (Pretoria Capitals Captain): "It is easy to say now (about toss). We were confident of bowling first and then chasing. We need to be better with execution. If we do that we will win games. Nice to see Root score runs. Jacks was good as well. It shows how tough the wicket was. Thank you."
Joe Root (POTM): "I think I might need one tonight, yeah. The most important thing is you read the surface and figure out what would be an ideal score on this wicket. The key was we had wickets in hand and at some point, you had a nice match-up and try to take him down.
On this surface, it is about trying to use the lack of bounce. I didn't think it would be as slow as it was. To get to that total was a great effort. Jacks paced his innings nicely, they got close to match us, a great game of cricket.
(on whether this surface helped him to prepare for India tour) This surface is certainly something like that we might get a bit of turn there. I have really enjoyed my time here. Obviously want to keep doing well for the lads, a great team."
Player of the Match: Joe Root
Time for post-match presentation.
For the first in T20 cricket, we have seen a team using only spinners for the entire 20 overs!
7:57 PM IST & 4:27 PM Local Time | Paarl Royals win by 11 runs and continue their good form in the tournament. The Capitals on the other hand, sink further and their hopes for qualification look slim. 20 overs of spin in the 2nd innings of this game. How often do you see that in a cricket game?
So, here is how the game panned out.
Put to bat first, the Royals did also a couple of early wickets but were good in the middle and death overs. Their batters were smart to adapt to the conditions in the middle and played accordingly. Joe Root was the pick of the batters for them and remained unbeaten at 78*. Skipper Miller was also impressive in the end and scored 29* off just 18 and helped his side get to a decent total.
With the ball, the pitch was surely on the slower side. The Capitals were good with the new ball but were expensive post that. They did pick up wickets in the middle overs but leaked too many in the end. Eathan Bosh, Will Jacks and Kyle Simmonds all bowled well and picked up a wicket each.
Coming to the chase, 140 was not going to be a easy chase considering how slow the pitch was. The Royals continued their momentum with the ball as well and were top notch throughout the innings. The trio of Bjorn Fortuin, Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Joe Root were the top wicket takers for them and picked up 2 wickets each in their 4 overs.
With the bat, it was a pretty ordinary performance from the Capitals. They kept losing wickets at regular intervals and failed to keep up with the required rate. Will Jacks was good at the top and scored 56 runs to his name but did not get any support from the other end. Kyle Verreynne did spend some time in the middle and scored 30 off 33. In the end, the total was too far from their reach.
