The Rashid Khan-led MI Cape Town conquered Gqeberha as they brushed aside the two-time champions without any fuss. Sunrisers Eastern Cape would want to forget this horror night as soon as possible and get their campaign back on track. The caravan will keep moving, with Durban Super Giants hosting Pretoria Capitals tomorrow at Kingsmead.

For now, this is me, AkshayaKrishna Polya, signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Pritam Dey and scorer/analyst Zeeshan Naiyer, who brought you all the live-action of this one-sided curtain-raiser. We will meet again. Until then, it's cheers!
Best bowling figures in an innings in SA20:

6/20 in 4 overs - Roelof van der Merwe vs Durban Super Giants (22nd January 2023)

5/10 in 3 overs - Delano Potgieter vs Sunrisers Eastern Cape (TONIGHT)*

5/11 in 3.2 overs - Noor Ahmad vs Joburg Super Giants (28th January 2024)
Delano Potgieter (Player of the Match): "Well, that was a quick turnaround. I don't know actually what to say. Very happy with my performance.

Yeah, at least not injuries. This is the first time I have bowled for the MI Cape Town in three seasons. Hopefully I play the whole season.

I think I just tried to keep it simple. I did not try to bowl a slower ball. I wanted to keep it in the stumps and it worked out for me. Yes yes, I came out to bat in the 18th over and I tried my best to get my side to a competitive total."
Player of the Match: Delano Potgieter
Rashid Khan (MI Cape Town Captain): "Brilliant start for us. That is the start you want to a new season. That is the start you want in a big T20 tournament.

We had a couple of tough years. We lost three early wickets. The way Brevis and Colin batted was brilliant. Then the way we finished, it was special.

Brevis is someone who can change the momentum of any game at any time. We needed someone like him to change the momentum. He has delivered in the past. The way he hit the ball was magnificent. He has the skill and ability. Brilliant innings under pressure, and the way he struck the ball was amazing to see.

In T20, you always need a good start. Someone like Trent Boult has been doing it for a long time. His experience always helps. That gave us a strong base and momentum.

(on Potgieter) Special bowler, a special guy. Last two seasons, he hasn't bowled much. But the way he delivered tonight. So happy for him and all about the way he has adjusted on this wicket."
Aiden Markram (Sunrisers Eastern Cape Captain): "Fair to say that, yeah unfortunately it has happened today (MI Cape Town silenced the crowd). That's T20 cricket for you. Tough day around for us. We were not good enough with the bat. Quick chat with the boys and we will start fresh in our next game.

Yeah it was pleasing to see the way we bowled in the powerplay. Credit to the boys the way they bowled in the powerplay.

Unfortunately you take those gambles to be honest. Brevis was striking the ball really well and full credit to Marco. Brevis was batting really well.

Yeah, we allowed them to get past the 170 mark. At this venue it is chasable but it is also defendable. Unfortunately we did not have a good game today."
Time for the Post-Match Presentation!
