That's it from the latest Melbourne Derby in Big Bash League 2024-25 folks! Hop tabs to join our coverage from the rest of the cricketing games LIVE!

This is Anirudh Modi, signing off along with my co-commentator Hitesh Peddurwar, and our scorer/analyst Paras Yadav! See you on the next one!
Ben Duckett (Player of the Match): "Yeah first half of the innings was good I actually got stuck in between in the Cartwright and Maxwell did well us to get over the line.

Stoinis played really well and took a lot of pressure off me. It is extremely hard coming at the end of the innings and hitting the boundaries Cartwright was awesome so glad he came good today.

The crowd was really good. I have been trying to take the ego out, I want to stick to the things that work for me as I can’t hit long ones. I think so we have played really good cricket, winning games like that is really good, we keep believing."
5:10 PM IST, 10:40 PM Local Time | Melbourne Stars win a cracking Melbourne Derby by 5 wickets! This match swung like a pendulum with both teams dominating in patches but it was the Stars who ultimately came out on top!

Melbourne Stars won the toss and elected to bowl first, and they took an early upper hand in the match with 2 wickets in the powerplay! But on the back of some important knocks in the middle order, the Renegades were able to register 168/7 from their 20 overs.

The partnership between Jacob Bethell and Jonathan Wells was the main catalyst as they stood strong together for 71 runs for the 4th wicket before Bethell was dismissed for 49 runs off 36 balls and Jonathan Wells followed suit with 45 runs off 31 balls. A late innings cameo of Laurie Evans ensured Renegades crossed the 165 run-mark!

Joel Paris was the pick of the bowlers with 2/23 from 4 overs. While, Peter Siddle chipped in with 2 wickets too.

Come the chase, the Renegades were in dreamland when the Stars lost three wickets in the opening exchanges. Gurinder Sandhu dismissed Tom Rogers in his first ball of the day and Sam Harper was caught in a huge mix-up in the middle! Dan Lawrence was not able to provide much support to a counter-attacking Ben Duckett.

However, a 83 run partnership between Ben Duckett and Marcus Stoinis led the Stars revival! Ben Duckett eventually smashed 67 runs in 49 balls and Marcus Stoinis missed out on his half-century by 2 runs, when he was caught for 48 runs off 35 balls.

At the time of Stoinis' wicket, the Stars needed 42 runs in 23 balls and it appeared that Renegades were back into it but Hilton Cartwright and Glenn Maxwell's explosive and unbeaten partnership of 42 runs for the 5th wicket ensured that Melbourne Stars took home the W they desperately needed!

Gurinder Sandhu continued his good comeback to Big Bash cricket with the figures of 3/29 from 4 overs but it was not enough to take his team home.

4 FOUR!!! Cartwright seals the win for the Stars! A back-of-a-length delivery on off-stump, and Cartwright clears his front leg, pulling it perfectly along the ground between deep square leg and deep mid-wicket. The ball races to the boundary, sending the crowd at the MCG into a frenzy!

The Melbourne Derby goes right down to the wire, but the Stars hold their nerves to emerge victorious in a thrilling finish.
HUGE MAXIMUM from Cartwright! That could be the match for Melbourne Stars here!
19.3 T Rogers to H Cartwright
6 High! High! High! Up in the air and into the stands! What a shot, that is a monstrous six! Fuller length delivery on the off-stump line, Cartwright sits deep in his crease and smacks it straight over the bowler's head. The ball goes for a 121 m long six! Stars need just 2 runs to win.
