That will be it from all of us for this game. Keep joining us for more cricketing action all around the globe. This is Akshay Bhide, signing off, on behalf of my co-commentator Soumarya Dutta and scorer Manish Bishnoi. Until next time, cheers and good bye.
Cooper Connolly (Player of the Match): "The Strikers fought back well with the bat but we were still satisfied at the half way mark. Finn Allen is a class player and he showed it tonight. It was great to contribute and it was a lovely wicket to bat on. It did a bit early on but once I got in, it became a lot easier to bat."

4:40 PM IST, 9:40 PM Local Time: That will be it. The Perth Scorchers beat the Adelaide Strikers by seven wickets in the New Year’s Eve clash in the Big Bash League 2024-25. They grab their third win in this year’s competition and jump to the second spot in the points table. The Strikers, meanwhile, suffer their fourth loss this season. This is also Perth Scorchers’ 100th win in BBL, becoming the first team to get to this milestone.
The Scorchers lost Matthew Hurst (3) and Aaron Hardie (2) inside the powerplay while chasing 143. Finn Allen was joined by Cooper Connolly and both steadied the ship. Allen played fearlessly and shifted the pressure back on the Strikers. He hit some lusty blows and Connolly too joined the party. Allen played wonderful strokes and raced to his maiden BBL fifty in just 22 balls.
Allen was cleaned up by Brendan Doggett on 50 on the very next ball. In walked Ashton Turner at number five. Connolly looked settled at the other end and remained unbeaten on 48. His skipper hit some lusty blows and finished the game in just 14.3 overs after remaining unbeaten on 35 as the Scorchers chased down the total with seven wickets in hand.
Earlier, the Perth’s pacers wreaked havoc with the ball after they elected to bowl first. They ran through the batting line-up of the Strikers as only D’Arcy Short (22) and Alex Ross (20) managed to get to double digits. The hosts were reduced to 58/8 in the 11th over and Brendan Doggett along with Cameron Boyce tries to rebuild the innings.
Both Doggett and Boyce played their strokes and frustrated the visitors as they took their stand past 50. The Scorchers looked a bit sloppy in the second half of the innings and as a result, failed to create further inroads. The record ninth-wicket partnership of 84 between Doggett (47*) and Boyce (29*) helped the Strikers get to a respectable total of 142/8. Jhye Richardson was the standout bowler for the Scorchers, registering figures of 3/29 in his four overs.

4 FOURRR MOREE!! TURNER ENDS THINGS IN STYLE AND THE SCORCHERS WIN BY 7 WICKETS! It was tossed up and around the middle stump line again by Boyce. Turner got to the pitch of the ball and picked up the length. He lofted it away on the up and deposited it away over the wide long on region for a boundary.
14.2 C Boyce to A Turner
6 SIXXXX MOREE!! SCORES ARE LEVEL NOW! It was flighted up and bowled around 76 kmph. Turner got down on one knee again and played the slog sweep flat over deep mid wicket for a MAXIMUM. Just one needed for a victory now.
