That brings an end to our coverage of this game. Keep joining us for more cricketing action all around the globe. This is Akshay Bhide, signing off, on behalf of my co-commentator Deepak Prakash and scorer Paras Yadav. Ta ta. Bye bye.
Nicola Carey (Player of the Match): "Yeah, it’s only been one game, so it’s a bit different. I’ve had a few different roles with the bat over the last few years, so it’s nice to spend a bit more time out in the middle. We’re just happy to get the win. It was actually presented to me. They asked me at the end of the season where I thought I might best fit in the team. I’d done a few different roles, so I wasn’t entirely sure. Then, with the addition of a new batting coach, they brought it up, and honestly, I was a bit surprised. But I took it on board and worked on it over the preseason, figuring out what it would look like for me. I’m not someone who’s going to be clearing the ropes, so my approach might look a bit different, but I’m definitely embracing it. We’ll see how it goes. I felt pretty ordinary out there at the start, to be honest. It was a bit tricky, and I thought they bowled really well to the conditions. They used a lot of slower deliveries, rolling their fingers over the ball frequently. I don’t think Sammy-Jo bowled a single delivery at full pace, which made it challenging, along with plenty of spin. So, yeah, it was a bit tough, but we learned from their bowling approach. I think a lot of our players adopted similar tactics with the ball, and it turned out to be really effective for us too. I probably got a bit carried away after the power surge and ended up losing my wicket. (On Lizelle Lee's keeping) She was excellent—entertaining and solid for us behind the stumps. It’ll be good; we had a good look at each other’s games. Hopefully, there’ll be a good wicket in Sydney with plenty of runs as well."

3:35 PM IST, 9:05 PM Local Time: That will be it. The Hobart Hurricanes Women start their Women's Big Bash League 2024 on a winning note. They beat the Sydney Thunder Women comprehensively by 31 runs. The Thunder Women continue to struggle at this venue as they suffer their fifth straight loss here. All smiles in the Hurricanes camp as they grab two points on offer tonight and start the competition with a win. Chasing 142, Thunder Women lost Chamari Athapaththu on a golden duck on the very first ball. Skipper Phoebe Litchfield joined Georgia Voll who departed on eight in the last over of the powerplay. Litchfield looked good at the crease but lacked support from the other end as Tahlia Wilson (3) and Georgia Adams (3) fell cheaply. Anika Learoyd joined her skipper at the crease and started building a partnership. Both kept rotating the strike and found regular boundaries. Litchfield brought up her fifty off 36 balls in her first game as a captain. The Hundred Women took the Power Surge in the 14th over and Litchfield got stumped straightaway on 51. Sammy-Jo Johnson (1) departed in the same over. Well-set Learoyd got cleaned up on 29 in the next over as the Thunder Women lost their way in the chase. The lower-order batters failed to contribute and the Thunder Women got bundled out on 110 in 18 overs to lose the game by 31 runs. It was a collective effort from the Hurricanes Women with the ball in hand. Heather Graham was the pick of the bowlers as she grabbed three scalps and gave away only 19 runs in her four overs. Lauren Smith and Chloe Tryon picked up two each as they defended the total successfully. Sydney Thunder Women won the bat flip and opted to bowl first. They got rid of Lizelle Lee (7) inside the powerplay. Danielle Wyatt-Hodge (18) looked good at the crease but fell in the ninth over while trying to up the ante. Nicola Carey looked good at three and steadied the ship along with her skipper Ellyse Villani (21). Carey brought up a fantastic fifty but fell soon on 52. The Thunder Women pulled back things by picking wickets at regular intervals in the second half of the innings. The Hurricanes Women lost their way before Tabatha Saville played a brilliant cameo of 16-ball 23* to lift her side to 141/7 at the end of 20 overs. Samantha Bates bowled beautifully for Thunder Women and registered figures of 3/20 in her four overs. Chamari Athapaththu also grabbed two scalps. The batters then faltered in the chase and fell short by 31 runs.
