That brings an end to our coverage of this game. Keep joining us for more cricketing action all around the globe. For now, this is Akshay Bhide, signing off, on behalf of my co-commentator Anirudh Modi and scorer Raju Khariya. Ta ta. Bye bye.
Alyssa Healy (Australia Women Captain): "One of my back, that's good but it's a good result for us to build confidence. We won without being perfect but we adapted to the conditions quickly, we just hung in there and took our opportunities. We'll have to see how it plays out against Pakistan in a couple of days.

Little bit hard sitting and waiting, it was an opportunity to watch the teams playing on the surface. We got a different wicket which did not help but it was nice to see the tournament start and watch from our POV. We are so blessed with depth in our batting lineup, we have the ability to change it around and we will throw different players to break the game open in future."
Chamari Athapaththu (Sri Lanka Women Captain): "Yeah, actually, we were playing good cricket in the last couple of months. We played good cricket even in the two warm-up games. We lost the first game against Pakistan and today against Australia. I feel we have struggled a bit on these slow and low tracks. But we can't complain. We have to adapt to the conditions.

Our batting depends on our first three or four batters. We have to find a way to bounce back in the competition.

We need to improve our batting definitely. We have to play fearless cricket and positive cricket. Hopefully, my girls will perform in Dubai."
Megan Schutt (Player of the Match): "There was a bit more bounce in the wicket and I did not bowl 3 overs in the powerplay, so it was nice to do that. Quite a slow outfield, so a little adjustment but it worked out well.

Decent wicket, got a little bit low and slow, and in the heat it was a bit tough, it's a good challenge. I think we finally acclimatized, we have played in summers before and you just gotta play with it. Tanks to a little breeze, we were able to survive. Nice to take out some poles out there today."

6:28 PM IST, 4:58 PM Local Time: That’s it. Australia Women, the defending champions, start their title defence on a winning note. They beat Sri Lanka Women by six wickets with 34 balls to spare. Their bowlers restricted the Sri Lanka Women to a low total before their batters completed the job by chasing it down in the 15th over. Sri Lanka Women have lost two games in a row and will have to pull up their socks quickly before time runs out.

Chasing a modest total of 94, Australia Women lost their skipper Alyssa Healy on four in the very first over. Georgia Wareham at three was run out cheaply on three. Beth Mooney was joined by Ellyse Perry as both steadied the ship for the defending champions. Just when the partnership was building, Perry got cleaned up on 17 in the last over of the powerplay.

Ashleigh Gardner walked out to bat at five. She along with Mooney kept ticking the scoreboard, with the latter found regular boundaries. Gardner departed on 12 in the 13th over as the 43-run stand came to an end. Mooney and Phoebe Litchfield remained unbeaten on 43 and nine respectively as they took their side across the line in 14.2 overs with six wickets in hand.

Earlier in the day, Sri Lanka Women opted to bat first and got off to a steady start. Openers Vishmi Gunaratne (0) and skipper Chamari Athapaththu (3) fell inside the powerplay. Kavisha Dilhari also departed cheaply on five. Harshitha Madavi Samarawickrama and Nilakshi de Silva led the recovery work for the Lankan side and stitched 31 between them for the fourth wicket.

Harshitha scored 23 before falling in the 13th over. A lack of substantial contributions from the other batters resulted in the Sri Lanka Women finishing their innings on 93/7, with Nilakshi remaining unbeaten on 29. Megan Schutt bowled beautifully for Australia Women and registered figures of 3/12 in her four overs. Sophie Molineux also chipped in with a couple of scalps. The Australian batters then stepped up and chased down the total comfortably with six wickets in hand.
