So, that also brings a wrap to our coverage of the 1st T20I between Ireland and Pakistan. A memorable day for Irish Cricket. For now, this is me Hiren Kumar singing off on behalf of my co-commentator Saptak Sanyal and scorer/analyst Zeeshan Naiyer
Andrew Balbirnie (Player of the Match)- "I was hopeful and thought that it is my responsibility to pull the chase off. I think in pressure situations, experienced players need to step up.
Harry told me that we need to bat normally and not take any pressure. I think Shaheen is a great bowler and on the flip side it is a shame for me to miss the full toss.
Yes, tomorrow will be a rest day for us."
Player of the Match- Andrew Balbirnie
Paul Stirling (Ireland Captain)- "We are absolutely delighted. A perfect day for us. I think it is one of the flattest pitch and we wanted to see how they can bat. Credit to our batters to chase this one. Andrew Balbirnie played a fantastic knock and he was timing it very well. We have had good games here and getting over the line today is fantastic. We look to have a day off tomorrow."
Babar Azam (Pakistan Captain)-"I think our start was not good. I think the pitch was quick and I said 180 will be a good total but now I think 190 would have been good. We lost in the bowling and fielding. We had a few lapse in the fielding and that was the reason.
I think we had a good first 10 overs and then we had a few lapse in the next 10 overs. That was the reason of our loss."
Welcome to the post match presentation.
23:03 IST and 18:33 Local Time: IRELAND BEAT PAKISTAN BY 5 WICKETS. A historic win for the Irish. They go 1-0 up in the series. A memorable day for Ireland and the sell out crowd. Some concerns for Pakistan going forward.
Opting to field first, the hosts did an excellent job with the new ball and kept the visitors under check until the powerplay. They were a bit expensive in the middle and death overs but did well to pick up wickets at regular intervals. Craig Young was the pick of the bowlers and picked up 2 wickets to his name.
For Pakistan, they were unfortunate to lose Rizwan in the form of a runout in the second over. Saim Ayub and Babar Azam did well in rebuilding the innings. They took their time but played good knocks of 45 and 57 runs respectively. Their middle order was dismissed cheaply today. In the end, Iftikhar Ahmed and Shaheen Afridi played a good cameos of 37* and 14* runs respectively to help their team cross the 180 mark.
Coming to the chase, Ireland were off to a decent start credit to Andrew Balbirnie. They lost their skipper early but Andrew Balbirnie held the other end firmly. He was supported well by Harry Tector and George Dockrell who scored 36 and 24 runs respectively.
Andrew Balbirnie was the hero of the chase and ended up scoring 77 off 55 balls. Also not to forget that valuable contribution from Curtis Campher lower down the order.
With the ball, Pakistani bowlers looked a bit out of form today. Shadab Khan was very expensive today and ended up giving 54 runs in his 4 overs. Abbas Afridi and Imad Wasim bowled well and picked up 2 and 1 wickets respectively. Pakistan will look to bounce back strongly in the next game. Stay tuned for the post match presentation.
