They win the game comprehensively by nine wickets and book a place in the knockout stage. The things were set up by their bowlers by knocking over Spirit on a paltry total before their batters made short work of the total. A win today has guaranteed the Oval Invincibles a top-three finish in the Men’s Hundred 2024.
Chasing a modest total of 97, the Oval Invincibles got off to a steady start. The Spirit bowlers bowled beautifully upfront and didn’t allow the Oval openers to get away. Will Jacks tried to break the shackles but fell on two, thanks to a sensational catch from Andre Russell. Jordan Cox joined Dawid Malan at the crease who took his time to get in.
Cox came out all guns blazing and played some sensational strokes. He didn't allow the London Spirit to get back in the game. Malan played the role of a second fiddle as Cox continued playing his strokes at the other end and raced to his fifty in just 26 balls. Cox and Malan remained unbeaten on 61 and 29 respectively and took the Invincibles across the line in just 63 balls with nine wickets in hand.
The Invincibles opted to bowl first. They had a very good start as Sam Curran dismissed Keaton Jennings (1) early in the innings. Michael-Kyle Pepper played some lovely strokes and 27 off 18 balls before getting cleaned up in the sixth set. It led to a collapse as the Spirit’s batters faltered against spin. None of their middle-order batters contributed as they were reduced to 64/6 from 40/1.
Daniel Lawrence (12) and Liam Dawson (14) tried hard but departed after getting settled at the crease. The Invincibles were quick to wrap up the tail as London Spirit failed to play out their full quota of 100 balls. They got bundled out on 96 in 92 balls. Adam Zampa bowled a sensational spell for the Invincibles and registered figures of 4/17 in his four sets, which included a maiden. Sam Curran and Tom Curran also grabbed three and two wickets respectively.
