Australia outplayed England in the inaugural match of a five-match ODI series, and we hope you enjoyed our ball-by-ball coverage of this contest. It's time to wrap up this coverage, folks! For now, this is Deepak Prakash signing off on behalf of co-commentators, Pritam Dey, AkshayaKrishna Polya and scorer/analyst Manish Bishnoi. CHEERS!
Mitchell Marsh (Australia Captain): "Yeah very happy, thought it was a great win for us. Especially with the way England got of to a start with the bat but the way we came back in the game in the final 20 overs worked out really well for us.

(On Marnus getting a ball) Well I wish I could take the credit for it but it was a forced change. A few messages came from the dressing room to take pace of the game and it worked out really well for us.

(On the Illness going around) Its not in our control though but hopefully the rest of the players remain safe. We have a lot of trust on the players who are getting their opportunity and looking forward to the next game after a good start to the series."
Harry Brook (England Captain): "I think we did everything we set out to do. We aimed to score quickly, put pressure on the bowlers, and when we bowled, we focused on taking wickets. Obviously, it wasn’t our day today, but hopefully, things will turn around in the next game.

We were definitely on track for a big score, but it just wasn’t meant to be. It was tough out there against the spinners. The ball was gripping the surface a bit, but we probably didn’t rotate the strike as well as we wanted to, and in the end, we fell short of a par score.

I think a few of us played well. Personally, I felt good out there, so I’ll take those positives forward. Rash (Adil Rashid) bowled well, and a few of the other lads did too.
It’s a long series, and hopefully, we can build on this momentum."
Travis Head (Player of the Match): "True I have really enjoyed batting at the middle, obviously I was pretty lucky early on in the Innings but it was a belter of a surface tonight to play my strokes and I backed myself.

Obviously, first of all, we did a fantastic job to restrict down to 315. Marnus and the other spinners did an expectational job with the ball to get them down to 315. Then batting with Marnus and getting the job done was really enjoyable."

Time for the Post Match Presentations.
Travis Head broke a couple of records tonight with his match winning knock with the bat. He becomes the highest individual run-scorer at England for Australia in this format.
Adam Zampa who picked up 3 wickets today, is the first Australian cricketer to play 100 ODIs without playing a single Test Match.
11:57 PM IST, 19:27 Local Time: A comprehensive victory for Australia in the curtain raiser of the five-match ODI series, thrashing hosts England by seven wickets with 36 balls to spare, to go 1-0 up in the series.

Earlier, England's innings began positively after winning the toss, with openers building a solid start on a favorable pitch. Debutant Ben Dwarshuis claimed his first ODI wicket, dismissing Phil Salt for 17. A crucial 120-run partnership between Ben Duckett and Will Jacks followed, putting England in control. However, in his 100th ODI, Adam Zampa broke the stand by removing Jacks for 62.

Duckett looked in sublime touch, but unfortunately, he fell just five runs short of his century. Spin became Australia's weapon, and England began to collapse after Duckett’s dismissal, with nine wickets falling to spin. Jacob Bethell’s valuable 35 runs off 34 balls helped the hosts cross the 300-run mark, and eventually, they were bundled out for 315 runs in 49.4 overs.

Adam Zampa (3/49) and Marnus Labuschagne (3/39) were the standout bowlers. Travis Head chipped in with a couple of wickets, while Matthew Short and Ben Dwarshuis contributed one wicket each.

In pursuit of 315 runs, Australia lost skipper Mitchell Marsh for a mere 10 runs in the fourth over of the innings, with Matthew Potts drawing the first blood for the hosts. Travis Head and Steve Smith played with authority and scored at a decent pace to keep the scoreboard moving. The pair added 76 runs for the second wicket, with Smith departing for 32 runs off 28 balls.

Cameron Green chipped in with a run-a-ball 32 and fell prey to Bethell, who grabbed his maiden ODI wicket. Travis Head paired up with Marnus Labuschagne and continued his merry ways. Labuschagne initially focused on strike rotation and switched gears as the game progressed. The Aussie opener delivered a scintillating knock, remaining unbeaten on 154 runs. Labuschagne complemented him with an unbeaten 77 off 61 balls, guiding Australia to victory with 36 balls to spare.

England bowlers failed to defend 315 runs and leaked runs at regular intervals. Matthew Potts, Liam Livingstone, and Jacob Bethell grabbed one wicket each for the hosts.

Stay tuned for the presentation....
