Time for us to take your leave! It has been a long day! A double-header Tuesday has ended with a record-breaking stuff from Pakistan. Earlier, England thrashed Bangladesh at Dharamsala. Now, Pakistan created history with the highest successful run-chase in the World Cups. Tomorrow, India will take on Afghanistan at Delhi! We will meet again.
For now, it is me, AkshayaKrishna Polya, signing off on behalf of my co-commentators Sidharth Gulati and Ayan Chatterjee, who, alongside our scorer/analyst Paras Yadav brought you all the live-action of this banger of a cricket game. Cheers!
Akshaya: Where did Sri Lanka lose this game? Kusal Mendis and Sadeera Samarawickrama hammered centuries after Pathum Nissanka scored a half-century. They set a huge target of 345 for Pakistan, and the latter didn't have any record of chasing more than 265 in World Cups. Maybe, the death bowling of the Men in Green was excellent, and hence, Sri Lanka failed to get a few more runs... But 345 is too big in itself!
Pakistan were down by 2 wickets, 2 big wickets! Bringing in Shafique for Fakhar Zaman proved to be a mastermind move in the end. Everyone questioned his approach during the first 20 overs. The required rate was climbing, and the time was getting out of hand. But both Shafique and Rizwan, I mean, it was an unbelievable riddle for the Lankans to solve. Both hit hundreds. Shafique proved his worth, while Rizwan was a solider. He had cramps and was down, and looked like he would never get up! Credits to him for his bravery. A match-winning innings and helped Pakistan to set a new World Cup record.
