Milestone
Time to wrap up our coverage from this match. Southern Super Stars have started their Legends League 2026 campaign with a couple of thumping victories. Today they have defeated the Royal Riders Punjab by 40 runs. Tomorrow we have another match lined up. India Captains will take on India Tigers in that match. Do join us for the coverage of that game.

For now, this is Saptak Sanyal signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Ninaad Dixit and the scorer/analyst of this game Paras Yadav. Good night.
Hamilton Masakadza (Southern Super Stars Captain): "Very happy with the way the game went on. Boys really applied themselves well. Bowled really nicely after that good batting effort. It's been a great start for the team.

[on the fielders] It's been amazing. You don't really expect this level of fielding at Legends Cricket but the team has been really good. In both games, the fielding has been really superb and it's been basically one big tick that we've had in our changing room.

[on 2 wins in 2 games] We've just approached it in a very simple and calm manner. We've just decided to keep a bit simple as a team, keep it relaxed, just go out and enjoy. Just apply ourselves and assure our skill. It's been really good from the boys, a very confident start to the tournament."
Puneet Mehra (Legend of the Match): "(Talks with Dilshan Munaweera after joining the crease?) The talk was not much. We thought of taking some time and the way he batted was great. I got the time to be set and got the runs.

(On taking the short runs) We thought that if we can take the singles and doubles, the scoreboard will not stop. We converted the bad balls into boundaries.

(Any bowler you targeted?) We went according to the situation. Did not target any specific bowler. Any day, right hand-left hand combination helps you and makes it tough for the bowlers.

Time for the post-match presentations.
Asghar Afghan (Royal Riders Punjab Captain): "[on conceding too much runs] 180 was a big total according to the pitch. We didn't bowl as expected. Puneet and Munaweera deserve the credit the way they batted.

[on their partnership] We tried rotating the bowlers but once you get set while batting first it gets hard. The ball was coming nicely on the bat but it was getting stuck later. They took the momentum away from us.

[on their batting department] We will meet and work on it. Shahzad starts well for us but the rest of the batters are playing poor shots. We need to rotate strike. We will work on it. We have important matches coming up. We will try our best."
11:12 PM IST and Local Time: Southern Super Stars have started the season with two back to back massive victories. After obliterating the India Captains in their first game yesterday, they have defeated the Royal Riders Punjab by a big margin of 40 runs.

Southern Super Stars won the toss and decided to bat first. They got a quick start as their skipper Hamilton Masakadza (19) and Puneet Bisht (13) got a few runs on the board. But both of them fell to the left arm spin and that brought Dilshan Munaweera and Puneet Mehra together in the crease.

The 3rd wicket partnership changed the game for the Southern Super Stars. Munaweera and Mehra added 107 runs in 64 balls. Munaweera got to his fifty in 32 balls and when he was hitting, Mehra was quiet. But after a while Mehra also joined the hostility and together they catapulted the score. Munaweera got dismissed by Anureet Singh scoring 53 off 37 balls with 8 fours and a maximum. Mehra hit 8 boundaries and two sixes to score 63 off 35 balls and became the top run getter for the Super Stars. A few small contributions from the others took the score to 179/7 in their 20 overs.

For Royal Riders Punjab, Anureet Singh took 2 wickets. Rishi Dhawan, Chaturanga de Silva and Angelo Perera chipped in with a wicket each.

Royal Riders Punjab sent Mohammad Shahzad as an impact substitute and he opened the innings alongside Phil Mustard in pursuit of 180. Mustard and Shahzad got some boundaries early but played a few dot balls to add 40 in their partnership in 35 balls. Mustard was stumped by Bisht for 19 and in the next ball, Gunathilaka hit a maximum to get off the mark.

Shahzad got the boundaries but played too many dot balls. Gunathilaka scored only 1 after that maximum and scored just 7 off 8. Puneet Bisht affected his third stumping by stumping out Asghar Afghan. And that dismissal led Shahzad to go for a desperate shot and he found Puneet Mehra off Asif Mansoori for 44. He hit 4 fours and 2 sixes in his 42-ball long stay.

After Shahzad's dismissal, it was on Thisara Perera and Rishi Dhawan to take the innings forward. Thisara took on the spinners and scored 28 off 23 balls with 3 fours and a maximum. Rishi Dhawan got 17 off 14 balls. But in the penultimate over they lost three wickets and the game was already out of their hands. Eventually they could muster only 139 runs losing 8 wickets in their 20 overs.

For Southern Super Stars, Diwesh Pathania took 3 wickets for 20 runs. Ravi Jangid picked up 2 wickets for 24 runs. Kamran Khan, Abhishek Sakuja and Asif Mansoori took a wicket apiece.
