Born in Pakistan, Usman Afzaal is a batting allrounder who played three Test matches for England in 2001.
A compact left-handed batsman, Afzaal earned his England cap for the 2001 Ashes series against arch-rivals, Australia. Though he performed poorly in the first two Test matches, Afzaal roared back strongly to score a fifty at the Oval.
He cemented his place in the England Test squad for their tour of India in the same year, but the talented allrounder did not get a single game in the series. Lack of consistency and disciplinary issues meant that Afzaal was out of the radar of the England selectors and has been out of favour since then.
The Pakistan born continued performing well in the domestic circuit and has represented Nottinghamshire and Surrey at the County level.
A well-organized player of pace bowling, Afzaal had a short international career. Fitness issues have hampered his career.
