One of the BBL's original six hitters, Travis Birt stormed into Australia's T20 side on the back on some incredible hitting first with Tasmania in the old state-based competition and then with the Hurricanes. The left-hander averaged more than a six per inning during his career and made a habit of peppering the stands and sometimes going over them.
A former Academy and u-19 Australian player, Birt posted a marvellous knock of 145 against South Australia in 2004. He made his first-class debut in the same season. A stand-out 2005-06 season saw him earn a place in Australia A team. Later in 2006-07, he was part of the triumphant Tasmanian side, making some valuable contributions towards the team, with a high score of 160 against New South Wales.
He made his T20 International debut for Australia against Pakistan on February 5th, 2010 and went on to feature in just four T20Is for the Baggy Green. The following year, he was bought by the Indian Premier League(IPL) franchise Delhi Daredevils(now Known as Delhi Capitals) for the tournament’s fourth season. However, in 2012, Birt was ruled out of the entire competition due to injury. It saw the last of Birt’s international career as well he played his last T20I in February 2012 as well.
Multiple failure on big occasions and injury woes had a major decline in his career. Although, Birt continued to feature in the Big Bash League(BBL) until 2015 for the Hobart Hurricanes.
