Predominantly a red-ball cricketer who likes to bat all day, Thomas Wood is a professional English cricketer who is a mainstay in the second XI team of Derbyshire.
Wood made his first-class debut against Leicestershire on September 12th, 2016, in the Specsavers County Championship Division Two. He had a forgettable debut as he just managed to score 22 runs in two innings in a contest that ended as a draw. He gradually made progress and broke in the first XI as a reserve bowler to bring depth to the batting attack.
The 27-year old was originally scheduled to join up with the Derbyshire squad ahead of the Royal London Cup campaign in July 2020. Despite the summer season being affected Covid-19 pandemic, Wood impressed in the training and the club confirmed his eligibility to join the Derbyshire first XI across all formats.
Wood had an impressive season in the 2016 Second XI Championship scoring three half-centuries and one century, he averaged over 50 in the One-Day Trophy as well. Being given an opportunity to showcase his skills in the first XI, he will be looking forward to carrying his form from the second XI and cementing his place in the squad.
