A right-handed wicket-keeper batter, Swetha Verma was drafted in the India Women side for the five-match ODI series against South Africa.
She was spotted at a very young age, and impressed by her zeal to learn, her coach, Liyakat Ali Khan took her under his wings and gave advance coaching in wicket-keeping.
Verma has played for UP in the domestic circuit and it was her wicket-keeping skills that impressed the Indian selectors and Verma was picked up for the ODI series against South Africa in March 2021. However, the talented keeper did not feature in any of the matches of the series.
A talented wicket-keeper player, Verma’s selection certainly raised eyebrows, but there is no doubt that under the guidance of Mithali Raj, Smriti Mandhana and others, Verma will learn a lot and will improve as a player.
